Panasonic confirms it will be present at Photokina 2020 and contribute “with great innovations”

The Photokina organization issued a press release which contains a statement from Panasonic manager Yosuke Yamane:

“For many years, photokina has been the ideal platform for us to present our product innovations. The Imaging industry is facing big changes and challenges these days. In 2020, we will also be coming to Cologne with big expectations in the new photokina format and are looking forward to contributing with great innovations.

Unlike Panasonic Olympus has decided to NOT participate at Photokina. And also other big players like Leica and Nikon decided to skip the event which will start on May 27.

Dpreview Interview: Aki Murata of Olympus says “Full-frame isn’t for everybody, more telephoto lenses coming”

Dpreview interviewed Aki Murata from Olympus. A couple of takeaways:

1) Olympus sees a trend with people coming from Full frame buying Olympus (for the birding and wildlife field)

2) Focus is on semi pro and pro market as Olympus can serve up products that can take photos which aren’t possible with a smartphone

3) Olympus will introduce more super telephoto lenses. And that’s an area of difference with Full Frame as Olympus MFT lenses will be small and of high quality

4) Olympus says Full-frame isn’t for everybody. It’s important for all photographers to think about what matters to them

5) There are no plans to make a new system with different sensor size

It was a nice interview with clear answers. Can’t wait to get my hands on their new 150-400mm lens :)

Olympus manager says the startegy is to now release a minimum of “2 bodies and 3 lenses every year”

Mapcamera interviewed a bunch of Olympus managers present at the “Olympus Photo Festa 2019” in Tokyo. The main hint  about  their future  strategy was the following statement:

“We will use this to develop products at the pace of 2 bodies and 3 lenses every year.”

Olympus did also show the new Zuiko 150-400mm F4.5 TC1.25x IS PRO lens behind glass. The lens will be released in 2020:

Sony releases the new 47MP and 8k30p MFT sensor fact sheet

Sony released the full presentation of the IMX492 sensor with 23,1mm diagonal (the MFT sensor has a 22.5 mm diagonal). The sensor has following key specs:

– 47MP multi-aspect sensor (41MP in 4:3 mode and 35MP in 17:9)
– Exmor R tech with electronic shutter
– Has 8k30p recording (in 17:9. In 4:3 it’s 25p)
– 2.315μm Pixel Size for both the Bayer and Monochrome sensor version

It’s obviously only a wild guess if that is the sensor that Panasonic will use for the GH6 (or Olympus for the E-M1III). But one thing for sure 8k on MFT has become really close today!

.

For the record: Techinsights had confirmed the IMX299 sensor is used  by the GH5s
