(FT5) GM1 with 12-32mm lens to cost around $600-700

I just got a price in an Asian currency. Translated in Dollars and Euro the Panasonic GM1 with 12-32mm lens will cost around 600-700 Dollars/Euro. This is a very good price if you consider that the GM1 features the same GX7 sensor, has an LF1 size (smallest MFT camera ever), the 12-32mm is the highest quality standard zoom of all mirrorless systems and at the same time the smallest too. Oh forgot, and it’s a very well built camera!

The Gm1 with 12-32mm is the first mirrorless interchangeable camera with zoom lens that really fits in your pocket! The camera is made to compete against the high end compacts like the Sony RX100MII which do cost $50-150 more than the Gm1 kit.

(FT5) Surprise: The 12-32mm not only is the smallest but also the best standard “cheap” kit zoom!

On Thursday (October 17) Panasonic will unveil their new little gem, the Panasonic Gm1 ultracompact camera which has about the same size nd thickness as the LF1 compact camera. It will become the smallest MFT camera ever made.

The astonishing thing is that I have been told by trusted sources that the standard 12-32mm kit zoom not only is as thin as the 14mm pancake…it is also the highest built and image quality of all standard kit zooms on the mirrorless market! With standard zoom I mean the cheaper kit zooms like the 14-42mm from Olympus or Panasonic or the Sony 16-50 and so on. The 12-32mm is made of all metal!

I repeat it. This is Panasonic answer to the Sony RX100. Same size, bigger sensor, and interchangeable mount! What do you want more? Oh yeas, maybe a compact f/1.8 Zeiss zoom would be nice :)

OMD vs A7 design (not really close).

There were rumor saying that Sony would launch a FF NEX (named A7 and A7r) with a sort of OMD design. The sketch on top is supposed to be 100% accurate of the camera that will be announced by Sony next week. If you compare the images you will see that there are quite many differences. Overall the OMD design looks more “harmonic” while the Sony looks like a sort of Lego assembled camera.

A couple of things to know about the Olympus-Sony OMD vs A7:
1) The Sony camera doesn’t come with the 5axis Olympus IBIS (this one is supposed to come with the next A-mount cameras)
2) The OMD (E-M1) and the A7/A7r share exactly the same Epson EVF.
3) OMD and A7/A7r do have about the same body size

And the A7 costs twice as much as the OMD.

RAW coming soon on Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras.

John Brawley just shared that image of a Pocket Cinema Camera with a RAW mark on it. He writes that it’s coming soon…

(FT5) Olympus mini OMD coming on October 29!

The mini OMD looking fixed zoom lens camera will be announced on October 29. I am yet not 100% sure about the sensor size but it should be 1/1.7 inch like the one used by the current Olympus XZ series. I call it mini OMD because it will look like a small OMD (and yes it has a built-in EVF in the middle). Reminder: The Panasonic Gm1 and 12-32mm announcement will happen next week on October 17 at 5-6am London time.

message to sources: The last two weeks I got many rumors about the next MFT lenses, fixed lens large sensor camera and Panasonic cameras in 2014. Thanks you all for the messages. Only want to ask you to be patient. I am trying to triple check the info I get to avoid to post false or partially incorrect rumors. Just to say that I got your rumors :)
