Soon Panasonic will officially launch the new 42,5mm f/1.2 Nocticron Lens. But don’t expect it to be cheap! If you don’t care about not having AF than you may jump on the great [shoplink 41062 ebay]Voigtlander Nokton 42,5mm f/0.95 lens[/shoplink]!

DSLRmagazine (translation here) just published the full test results and in short these are their findings:
– The center of the image is very sharp at f/0.95 already.
– You will start to have a top performance of both center and corner sharpness at f/2.0 aperture.
– Vignetting is acceptable at f/0.95 and disappears from f/2.0 towards.
– There is almost zero distortion
– The overall performance has been improved compared to the first [shoplink 36580 ebay]Nokton 25mm lens[/shoplink].

There is another review of the lens at Admiringlight (Click here) and DSLRmagazine (translation here):

At smaller apertures, the Nokton 42.5mm is extremely sharp across the frame with great color and contrast. At wider apertures, there is a glow due to spherical aberration, though resolution is still relatively good. The spherical aberration becomes more problematic at closer focus distances and wide apertures and the lens can display rather heavy longitudinal chromatic aberration. Overall, though, the images out of the 42.5mm f/0.95 are of very high quality, and the speed and subject isolation you get with this lens is more akin to the look you get from a full frame camera than typical Micro 4/3.

Really a great lens from Voigtlander!

(FT4) There will be a Panasonic 12-32mm (non PZ) compact lens.

.

A source just shared some info on a new lens that will be launched along the new ultra-compact Panasonic G camera in early October! There will be a 12-32mm lens as compact as the current Panasonic X Vario PZ 14-42mm. But the new 12-32mm will not have the PZ function and is likely a tiny bit smaller than the current pancake zoom. Obviously this lens will be the kit lens of the ultracompact camera. Very small, very light and a tiny bit wider…sounds like the perfect companion for the new camera!

P.S.: Along the Panasonic G and 12-32mm ultra compact camera and lens there will be also the final release of the Nocticron 42,5mm lens.

Rumors classification explained (FT= FourThirds):
FT1=1-20% chance the rumor is correct

Sony photographer talks about a Four Thirds NEX (must be an error?).

Sony photographer Clayton Nelson wrote a weird message on Facebook. Here is the text:

Mr. DebDeb (Editor’s note: his cat), photographed with my newly purchased Sony NEX 7 four thirds format digital camera. I took this with a fifty year old Nikon lens, used on the camera with a manual adaptor. I was amazingly surprised at the quality of the images that this camera renders, at 25.3 megapixels. The great thing about these cameras is that almost any lens from any camera can be used with the NEX cameras…. Next up? Shooting fashion with, on Amy Mohoric Snyderman, tomorrow…

We know he ist testing the new NEX-7r, so it’s common for him to receive brand new Sony cameras before the release. But I would be surprised to know that Sony made a sort of Four Thirds NEX camera! I guess this has to be an error! Or maybe the new NEX-7R has a Four Thirds sized sensor that can take both, APS-C format, square format and 4/3 format pics? Ok, just speculation for now, I still think he made a mistake. Or he is trying to confuse people because he leaked some NEX-7r info on Saturday…also possible!

(FT4) Guess what? Both compact camera rumors may be correct. New XZ now and High End compact later.

Yesterday I posted a low rated FT2 rumor about an XZ camera with 28-300mm zoom and a Four Third sensor camera with fixed lens. I wasn’t sure which one was correct but with a little bit of help of one trusted and one new source (Thanks!) I learned that most likely both rumors are correct!

1) The new XZ compact camera with 28-300mm zoom and same sensor size like current XZ cameras will be announced in October.

2) Olympus is definitely working on a High End Premium compact camera with Four Thirds sensor. But it’s likely NOT going to be announced in October.

So there was the reason of the confusion, I got small bits of rumors about two different cameras and not one camera :)

(FT2) UPDATED: Some Olympus high end compact info.

I wouldn’t get too excited about that rumor as it comes from a new source. So there is only a low chance this is correct. But sometimes even FT2 rumors become true and this sounds so good that I hope this is one of these rare times :)

The new source reported this:

I´ve got som news from japan: Olympus will very soon show a new high end camera. It will have a four thirds sensor. it is no system camera. bigger and better than the xz-series.

UPDATE: Another anonymous source said the rumor from the other sources isn’t correct. He writes:

This rumour about the compact camera with 4/3 is incorrect. The new compact will have the same size sensor as the XZ-2, it will however have a new lens, 28-300mm with a constant f2.8. Will m
Be announced in Oct

I hope trusted sources can soon confirm which one of the two is correct.

If it’s going to be really a completely new camera than they may will revive seom glorious film camera from the past:

(FT5) A new Panasonic MFT camera to be announced soon too!

A 43rumors reader design of ultra small MFT camer (not the real camera!).

Not only Olympus but also Panasonic will have an announcement soon. In October they will launch the ultra compact G camera. And the pricing of the new 42,5mm f/1.2 will be announced too. The lens should ship in December. I have no specs of the new Panasonic MFT camera yet. But I am really curious to see how the camera will look. And the BIG question in my mind is also…is a camera that small really what the mass is looking for? If you really want to go small maybe the Sony QX LensCamera is what people will buy…or not?
