New Leica camera registration. Is it a MFT or APS-C camera?

The Leica T Tye 701 name registration in Taiwan (found via Digicameinfo).

It may be that soon a third company will produce MFT bodies. It’s still very uncertain if Leica will really make a MFT camera but wo things are sure:
1) Leica will launch a new mirrorless interchangeable system soon
2) Leica signed an agreement with Panasonic for the delivery of new mirrorless interchangeable bodies for $1400 each.

It’s going to be interesting…and expensive ;)

(FT5) New Olympus MFT camera and new MFT kit lens coming in Spring.

Rumor work never ends! By early 2014 we expect a bunch of new announcements. Not only Panasonic is almost ready to launch a new 4K GH camera. According to two trusted sources Olympus will also launch one new MFT camera with a brand new MFT kit lens. I hope to get some reliable specs soon. One more thing: One source said it’s not a PEN!

Overall it sounds like both Panasonic and Olympus will NOT wait til Photokina to launch some interesting new stuff.

Olympus teases a new “high-end compact” announcement.

Olympus UK launched a photo competition and one of the prizes is “the soon to be announced latest high-end compact from Olympus“. We already know what it is. The Stylus 1 that will be announced on October 29 and feature a 1:1.7 inch sensor and 24-300mm zoom.

This could be the last announcement from the year for Olympus. Both, Olympus and Panasonic are likely going to announce more new products in January. And I expect some great new stuff by then!

(FT4) Full Panasonic GH 4K camera specs!

Image on top shows the Canon EOS C300. The new GH will compete against it.

Panasonic said many times that they want to focus on the pro market. And I am certain Panasonic will launch a 4K Micro Four Thirds camera in 2014.

And I already have some possible specs of the new camera! One of my long time trusted sources shared the full specs. I wasn’t able to doublecheck the info yet so don’t take it as a full FT5 rumor yet. Her they are:

Panasonic GH4
16mp
1/8000 shutter
1mil dot OLED screen
21mm OLED viewfinder, 3,000+ dot.
Time code
200mbps mp4 All-i/100mbps IPB
4k/30p
4:2:2 10/8bit output
3G-SDI and XLR adaptor (An adaptor that the camera sits on with XLR x2, HD-SDI x4)
Price: €2799

The source also said that it’s a rather chunky slab of a thing taking the whole width of the GH4 and about an inch deeper front to back, with the outputs all facing out the left if you were to view when holding the camera facing away from you. Certainly not an item expected to be used outside of a rig by the looks of it.

A second source confirmed that a High End Panasonic MFT camera is likely going to be announced in Spring. He cannot confirm the specs but he told me Panasonic will put all the best tech they have into that camera. The camera will compete against the Canon EOS C300 but for 1/5 of the price!

UPDATE: A detailed analysis can be read at EosHD.

(FT4) Panasonic 4K MFT camera coming in 2014!

gh4

Let’s drop the bomb:

According to two highly trusted sources Panasonic will launch a new High End Micro Four Thirds camera that can record 4K video. The camera will be in Stores by 2014. The model is placed above the current [shoplink 33624]Panasonic GH3[/shoplink]. It will not(!) replace it and it will cost much more than the GH3!

I hope to get full specs confirmations soon. But Panasonic is definitely moving towards the professional market with their cameras and lenses. And they want to do it by focusing on one aspect. Top video and photo hybrid quality performance!

P.S.: Stay tuned on 43rumors!
