The Panasonic built Leica T type will not be MFT.

As reported on MirrorlessRumors the Panasonic built Leica T type mirrorless camera will be launched in April. And it’s now pretty save to say that this camera will not feature a Micro Four Thirds mount. Panasonic will make the camera and zoom lenses for the new Leica system.

It has still to be seen if Panasonic will ever join the system. Very unlikely if the sensor has the APS-C size. More likely if the camera uses a Full Frame sensor…

Olympus says they will may go back making DSLR if Mirrorless keeps growing.

On top you can see the E-7 prototype close to the E-M1.

In an Interview at Amateur Photographer Olympus Manager Terada said:

“Nobody knows 10 years away… once we can get a very nice share [in mirrorless] we may expand the business to DSLR again, but at this moment we are just concentrating on mirrorless and we have no plan to go into DSLR.

Terada also believes that:

Olympus has the potential to take a large chunk of the market, in two ways: by winning over existing DSLR users; and by pulling in complete newcomers to system cameras.”

Hmmm, don’t think this will ever happen…Olympus going back to DSLR. Niet.

(FT5) Official Panasonic Nocticron specs. Hope it gets priced like the new Fuji F1.2 lens!

Image on top shows the Nocticron and the Fuji XF. Both lenses have f/1.2 aperture and hopefully similar pricing.

These are the official Panasonic Nocticron 42,5mm f/1.2 Asperhircal Power OIS lens specs via Digicameinfo:

– Lens construction: (one ED lens, one UHR lens, two aspherical lens) 14 pieces in 11 groups
– Focusing: inner focus
– AF motor: screw integrated stepping motor
– Equipped with aperture ring
– Image Stabilizer: POWER OIS
– Barrel: Metal
– Aperture blades (circular aperture iris) 9 pieces
– Minimum focusing distance: 0.5m
– Maximum magnification: 0.1 times (0.2 times in terms of)
– Filter size: 67mm
– Height: 76.8mm
– Maximum diameter: 74mm
– Weight: 425g

The lens will be announced the next days but one important info is still missing….the price! I hope it gets a similar pricing like the today announced Fuji 56mm f/1.2 lens which costs $999 here at Amazon. Ok, this lens has no stabilization and likely doesn’t focus as fast (Panasonic AF is known to be better compared to Fuji).

Fingers crossed guys!

(FT5) One rumor to rule them all: Olympus E-M10, Panasonic GH4, and new lenses.

We are now ready to start into the next MFT camera and lens announcement period. Starting from late Janaury and til June we will see a couple of new cameras and lenses. And now let’s talk about the thing we know that will be announced:

1) Olympus E-M10 to be announced in late January (or early days of February at last). It will succeed the E-M5 (althaugh the E-M5 will keep remaining for sale for a longer time). Same E-M5 sensor but with new E-M1 imaging processor. Expect it to have most of the E-M1 features without the E-M1 extra grip and buttons (and not freezeproof body).
2) Olympus will announce two new lenses along the E-M10. The 25mm f/1.8 and a new compact zoom lens
3) Panasonic is likely going to finally introduce the Noctirocron 42, 5mm f/1.2 in February
4) The Panasonic GH 4K camera is likely going ot be launched in Spring. I have no exact timing but NAB show in Las Vegas (April) seems to be the right place for it.

But there is more to come: We can expect a new GF camera (see patent images), new G camera and new PEN cameras too.

The surprise: I got the feeling there will be some suprises this year. Particularly on the Sony-Olympus partnership front.

Robin Wong shoots with a new Olympus cameras. Is it or not the E-M10? UPDATE: Nope, it’s the Stylus :)

Robin Wong just posted a couple of images shot with a “new Olympus” camera. He doesn’t share any details about the camera but this could be (or not be) images taken with the soon to be announced OMD E-M10 cameras.UPDATE: He just said the “new camera” he used is the Stylus 1 :)

As I told you many times before this cameras will come within the next couple of weeks and feature the same E-M5 sensor with E-M1 imaging processor. Now it’s your guess to say if that could be the E-M10 :)

(FT5) There will be a 25mm f/1.8 lens!

The current Panasonic Leica 25mm f/1.4

Another source confirmed that Olympus will launch a new 25mm f/1.8 lens. The source said the lens is solidly built and focuses fast on the new OMD camera. Yes, both, the new OMD and that lens will be announced in January.
The lens will be cheaper and smaller than the Panasonic Leica 25mm f/1.4.

I am working to get some Panasonic rumors too. The Nocticron should finaly be released at CP+ but I am not sure if the GH 4K camera will come now or in April at the Las Vegas NAB show…

New Panasonic GF design spotted!

Egami spotted a new Panasonic patent showing a Panasonic GF camera design. Actually it’s a real picture of the camera more than a design :)
As you see the camera is quite different from the previous GF models. I guess the new GF camera will be announced in Spring just like it did happen every year since the first GF camera introduction.

Just don’t know how much sense it keeps the GF series when you have a much smaller and better designed GM series. The only way to make the GF interesting is to offer it for an incredibly low price…
