(FT5) New OMD E-M10 name gets registered in Indonesia. Announcement in January!

So, the rumors I posted the last weeks were correct and Olympus will announce the new E-M5 successor in January. The proof comes via the Indonesian agency that approves wifi capable devices before their launch on the market (ePostel). It registered the name OMD-10 for the new Olympus!

The new OMD will replace the E-M5 although the E-M5 production will not be stopped. The camera is that popular that Olympus will keep selling them for a longer time. The new E-M10 has the same E-M5 sensor but it has the new E-M1 Imaging processor. Also Autofocus and IBIS have been improved (like the E-M1).

As usual stay tuned on 43rumors because there is an exciting rumor time ahead of us!!!

Panasonic 2014 prediction by Digital Camera Magazine (GH4 and large sensor compact).

This is what Digital Camera Magazine expects to be release by Panasonic in 2014:
1) A new GH3 successor
2) Extension of the GX7 and GM line up.
3) Fixed lens camera with larger sensor.

From what I know from my sources there will be a GH 4K camcorder which will placed above the current GH3 model and not replace it. It’s also likely that there will be also new G and GF models.

Olympus 2014 prediction by Digital Camera Magazine: Two PRO zoom, high end compact camera, and larger sensor camera?

Like every year the Japanese Digital Camera Magazine interviewed all Japanese Photo company managers. After the interview the magazine shares “rumors” about what we could expect in 2014. From the past experience we can say that about 60-80% of what they write becomes true. For 2014 this is their “prediction”:

Olympus will launch two more PRO zoom cameras (ok, that’s a fact and already mentioned by Olympus itself)
A High End Stylus camera with FT or ASP-C sensor
A Silver E-M1 OMD model
As a note (in blue on the image on top) the magazine writes that Olympus could go for more Megapixels and even larger than FT sensor cameras (don’t know if he refers to the Stylus or also possibly completely new system mount cameras with FF sensor).

Just my two-cent: I think there is much more than this to come from Olympus. We can expect some big things at Photokina in September!

(FT5) Rumor correction: The new OMD entry level camera is the E-M5 successor!

Sorry guys for the confusion but now I am 100% sure about it: The new OMD camera coming in January is also the E-M5 successor. The confusion started because two of my sources have been told the E-M5 will still remain on sale for 2014. This lead us to believe that the new OMD camera will not replace the E-m5. As I learned tonight after a short discussion with trusted sources is that the new OMD will indeed be the E-M5 successor. But the original E-M5 camera will remain in production and available for sales even after the successor announcement.

Also confirmed: it has the same E-M5 sensor with E-M1 imaging processor.

(UPDATED FT5) New OMD coming already in January (with E-M1 processor and E-M5 sensor)

Small update about the soon to be announced new OMD entry level camera. According to one source it will be already announced in January. UPDATE: I corrected the original rumor. The new OMD has the same processor as the E-M1. and the same sensor as theE-M5. The source also confirmed the camera will NOT replace the E-M5. The E-M5 will continue to be sold and likely be replaced at Photokina.

(FT3) Olympus 25mm f/1.8 to be announced in February?

Image on top shows the Panasonic 20mm pancake.

I got info from a source saying that Olympus will also launch a new 25mm f/1.8 lens along the new low-end OMD model that is going to be announced in late January-early February. He told me the lens is a tiny bit thicker than the current Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 lens and cheaper than the Leica 25mm f/1.4.

I hope more sources can tel me soon if the rumor is correct :)
