(FT2) Panasonic LX200 to be announced before Photokina?

Panasonic is likely to introduce one more camera this year. Latest unconfirmed rumor says the LX200 will be introduced a short time before the Photokina start (end of September). No specs are given yet. So it’s unclear if this is going to be a small evolution of the current LX100 or a completely revolution with maybe new kind of sensor tech.

(FT4) Insider info about the GH5 development and future

I got some insights info about the GH5 development:
– There are prototypes of the GH5 running the same photo enhancements as the G9. Panasonic is unsure whether this will be a paid or free update, if they launch a GH5+ or if this features will be only available to G9.
– There is an internal fight of the product managers: Hybrid means by the GH5 PM that it should have the best features in both areas  and not only in video. So maybe this means also the end of the traditional GH series. It would mean that maybe in next releases we see G Line as the photo tool and a new line as primary video.
– While the GH5 hit all expectations in terms of video share it wasn’t sold in numbers in the photo sector.  That’s why they launched the new G9. There is a huge discussions marketing wise why GH5 was only positioned as the video beast.

Olympus officially confirms they will not have “classic” stand at Photokina this year

Olympus officially confirmed the rumor we posted days ago. Photoscala reports:

Ja, Olympus verzichtet dieses Jahr in Köln auf einen klassischen Messestand – das hat Pressesprecherin Elisabeth Claußen-Hilbig uns gegenüber bestätigt.

Which translated means that Olympus will not have a classic stand at Photkina like they had in the past events. Olympus also said they will “only” have a “Perspective Playground” presence.

For the first time in decades Olympus will NOT have their regular stand. Sad news but also logical: the next major Photokina event is planned for May 2019. Makes sense to skip this one :)

Still, Olympus did not confirm that they won’t announce any new camera. But this Olympus statement is an indirect evidence supporting the rumors we got saying the E-M5III will be announced in early 2019 and not at this years Photokina.

On the other hand, Panasonic is also present at Photokina and they might announce a new camera/lens. So let’s hope they will surprise us!

Panasonic going to launch new f/1.2 prime lenses? Here are the patents…

Sigma just patented two new Micro Four Thirds lenses: 14mm f/1.2 and 35mm f/1.2. Now you will wonder…what has this to do with Panasonic? Because Sigma is known to sell those lens designs to Panasonic. The Leica 12mm f/1.4 for example is designed by Sigma (article here).

That’s why there is a high chance the 14mm and 35mm f/1.2 prime lenses will be released by Panasonic (maybe using Leica brand).
