Panasonic says Android-powered cameras are in the works!

The so far only Android powered Panasonic “camera” is the [shoplink 58774 ebay]Lumix CM1[/shoplink]

StuffTV reports:

At a round table session at Panasonic Benelux, Panasonic’s Michiharu Uematsu told Stuff Netherlands that an Android-powered camera would be on the way “very soon”. “The interface from our cameras is sometimes experienced as too difficult,” Uematsu explained. “This will be solved quickly [with Android]. It’s an open OS and easy to use.”

I would be surprised to see Panasonic using Android on MFT cameras. So far the implementation we saw was made on the [shoplink 58774 ebay]Panasonic Lumix CM1[/shoplink]. What do you think about it?

Thanks Jan for finding and sharing this!

(FT5) Olympus to ship a new 25mm f/1.2 lens by mid 2016!

[shoplink 56524 ebay]50mm12[/shoplink] Image on top shows the [shoplink 56524 ebay]OM 50mm f/1.2 lens (here on eBay)[/shoplink]

Our top sources confirmed Olympus will launch a new f/1.2 prime lens series. And today we can report with high accuracy that the first lens will be a new 25mm f/1.2 Zuiko PRO! It will ship by mid 2016. Price is yet not known and I am also not sure if Olympus will show the lens for the first time at the Cp+ show in late February.

A while ago our source “Simon” said Olympus did develop both f/1.0 and f/1.2 lenses. But did choose to produce the f/1.2 only:

Why ? The production cost for the f1.0 were double as for the f1.2. And the size was 43 % bigger and the wight 230g more. The f1.0 is around 620g. Don’t forget with two very quick & silent autofocus Engine. But we will see no f 1.0. it is the same Story like FT E-7 vs. MFT EM-1. and here it is a question of invest in more glas, what means more expensive + more wight. The diameter was 68mm. so to big and to haevy for mft . The autofocus of the New f1.2 is outstanding und works perfect together with the PEN F. 30 % quicker as EM-1 with the Same les.

Bit of history: Olympus OM system had two f/1.2 lenses: The [shoplink 56524 ebay]50mm f/1.2 (here on eBay)[/shoplink] and the [shoplink 56525 ebay]55mm f/1.2 (here on eBay)[/shoplink].

(FT4) One more Panasonic MFT announcement soon…

Two sources confirmed that Panasonic will have a new MFT announcement within the next 4-6 weeks. I got no details yet but they said it’s not for a new GH or G series camera! I am working to get the details soon.

In the meantime answer this: what are you hoping to get from Panasonic?

Olympus manager Toshiyuki Terada interviewed

Bildschirmfoto 2016-03-03 um 16.26.22

Focus Numerique (google translation here) posted the interview with Olympus manager Toshiyuki Terada. As usual a couple of highlights:

  1. Why no large sensor fixed lens compact?
We have limited human resources and we have to set priorities. And the reduction in the size ultimately would not be so important and above all, we need to differentiate ourselves from the competition and is where it’s tricky.
  2. About 4K:
For now, the 4K is not indispensable and we have to find interesting features around the 4K before implanting.
  3. What is the most impressive or most outstanding technology?
I was really impressed with the choice of Sony released a 24×36 sensor with 12MP only! Stabilization is also, for me, an important step. We introduced the 5-axis stabilization system and it is important in many areas: for slow speeds for telephoto zoom lenses and even video.
  4. Olympus main focus:
If I had to summarize the position of Olympus, is to keep the quality of the optics while trying to provide maximum portability.
  5. High Resolution mode:
“One of our wishes and to use the HR mode (High Resolution) freehand. It would be really interesting.

The Panasonic GH5 rumor (6K and 20+ Megapixel sensor)

The Sigma and Panasonic lens announcement of last week took away some of the spotlight of the most recent Panasonic 6K camera rumor posted by Nikkan. So let’s recap and discuss the details fo the rumor.

Panasonic will announced a 6K mirrorless system camera during fiscal year 2016. This means it will be announced within now and March 2017. Easy to guess that Photokina is the best spot to announce that new High End camera. While it has not been confirmed by Nikkan sources, it’s very likely that this will be the new GH5 camera. The GH5 will have those specs:

– 6k recording at 30fps and 4K at 60fps
– Each 6K frame has 18 Million Pixels. this means you can screen grab 18MP photos from each 6K recorded frame
If the camera records 6K than the Four Thirds sensor will have 20+ Megapixels in “normal still photo mode”.

I don’t think the GH5 will have the new “organic sensor”. That’s highly unlikely to happen any time soon. And 8K will find his way in a future GH6 model in 2018-2019. at 8K every single frame has 33MP resolution:
