Wow folks! Sony announced the world’s first 20 Megapixel Four Thirds format Global Shutter sensor! Will it be used by the new Olympus OMD?

Well this is exciting! Sony announced the world’s first range of global shutter sensors. This list inlcudes a new 20 Megapixel Global Shutter sensor! Damn I can see Olympus using this on their new OMD camera! Those are some incredible specs:

Description
The IMX367LLA is a diagonal 21.6 mm (Type 4 / 3) CMOS active pixel type solid-state image sensor with a square
pixel array and 19.66 M effective pixels. This chip features a global shutter with variable charge-integration time. This
chip operates with analog 3.3 V, digital 1.2 V, and interface 1.8 V triple power supply, and has low power consumption.
High sensitivity, low dark current and low PLS characteristics are achieved.
(Applications: FA cameras, ITS cameras)

(FT5) The new Olympus high end camera will be announced in January and feature a new MFT sensor

Olympus will announce a new High End OMD camera in January. It will feature a new MFT sensor with”advanced video features“. This is definitely NOT going to be a FF camera but a new exciting MFT flagship camera!

UPDATE: Another trusted source told this:

while video has obviously been enjoying attention as reported, ensuring that the joy of high quality creative photography is enhanced remains a major part of the anniversary model’s focus.

UPDATED: New Panasonic Full Frame camera “might” have Leica SL mount and ship in March 2019

Rendering of a GH5 camera with Full Frame sensor and FF sensor (just a rendering and not the real camera!!!)

One source just told me this:

1) UPDATED: The new Panasonic FF “might” have the Leica SL mount.
2) The new camera will be announced as a prototype on September 25 but final version will start shipping out in March 2019

There are still many questions that needs to be answered. The first one being…will Olympus join the new system too?

You can join the new Panasonic Full Frame Facebook group if you plan to buy this camera. There you can discuss all features and tests once it’s released!

(FT3) Word on the street is that the new Panasonic Full Frame camera will NOT use a Sony sensor

This rumor has yet to be confirmed by my usual trusted sources. But this is what I am hearing for now:

The new Panasonic Full Frame camera will NOT use a Sony sensor

I have no idea if it means that Panasonic “designed” the sensor and Sony produced it. Or if this sensor is made by Towerjazz. Still, the exciting part of this rumor (if it turns out to be true) is that Panasonic will not simply reuse existing Sony FF sensors.

(FT5) Panasonic will announce its first Full Frame system camera on September 25!

Rendering of a GH5 camera with Full Frame sensor and FF sensor (just a rendering and not the real camera!!!)

Well, folks the day has come that will mark a new history in this photographic journey. 10 years ago Panasonic announced the first mirrorless camera named “G1”. And now 10 years later Panasonic will announce a new Full Frame system camera on September 25!

Word on the street is that Panasonic will show a prototype and the final product will be on market during the first half of 2019.

One of the sources testing the camera said this is “as exciting as the Nikon Z7 announcement“. One went even further and said it’s “more exciting“. But of course, they might got carried away with their emotions so let’s keep our feet on ground. A third source said “video performance is superb“.

And now to the purely speculative part (no rumor here and no fact):

We have yet no specs to share and it’s unclear if this new system is made in collaboration with Leica and/or Olympus. I hope Olympus is on board with this but from the whisper I got it doesn’t seem that’s the case yet. The best guess (I repeat guess!!!!!!!!!) is that it used the same Leica SL mount. This is the accurate size comparison between the Gh5 with Leica SL mount and the current GH5:

I repeat, we have yet absolutely no info if that’s a new Panasonic mount or if Panasonic will join the SL mount system. Of course the advantage of joining Leica would be that they already have six lenses (see them here)…althaugh they are expensive :(

Moreover we have no info if they will keep the 4:3 format. I hope so! You can join the new Panasonic Full Frame Facebook group if you plan to buy this camera. There you can discuss all features and tests once it’s released!

Exciting: Panasonic launches a new countdown for their Photokina Press conference!

After Nikon also Panasonic rediscovered the old-fashioned countdown marketing :) They just launched this Photokina page with a countdown to their press conference. The press conference will start at 12:30 Berlin time on September 25.

What can we expect from Panasonic? All I heard so far is that there might be a new G90 camera with GH5s similar tech. And maybe some new f/1.2 primes too!

Thanks Lumixcan
