(FT5) A new force is building up: Leica, Panasonic and Sigma are on board together on the Full Frame SL mount project!

Note: original rumor on the new website named L-rumors.com!

This is HOT news folks! I can confirm with 100% certainty that three are the companies that will work closely together on the new Full Frame adventure: Leica, Panasonic and Sigma will announce a new partnership for the Full Frame system which is based on the Leica SL mount. So far it does not seem that Olympus is on board with them. But this might change later…

While it’s obvious that Leica and Panasonic will both make cameras and lenses it’s still unclear if Sigma will make SL cameras too. But I have been told this is a “deep” partnership and definitely much more than just making SL mount versions of current Sigma lenses. To me this sounds like Sigma is abandoning the SA mount…but that’s just my guess and I may be wrong on that.

About lenses: I have been told that all three companies understood lenses are the key to succeed. This means right from the start there will be many more lenses than you can have now with the Canon EOS-R and Nikon Z system.

I am working to get some more details. Stay tuned!

Because of this news I am going to launch a new website named L-rumors.com. I will keep posting hot rumors about Panasonics FF move on 43rumors for some time. But all detailed SL mount camera news will be posted on L-rumors.com from now on.

  • Panasonic-Leica-Sigma will announce a new partnership around the SL mount FF system

(FT5) Panasonic Full Frame camera will use the Leica SL mount!!!

Panasonic G9 with Leica SL mount rendering. The new Panasonic FF camera is rumored to look close to that

It looks like one of my rumors could have been wrong. “Evidence” I got the past days confirm that the new Panasonic FF WILL DEFINITELY use the Leica SL mount. One of the sources told me that the prototype he saw some times ago looked like a Panasonic G9 with Leica SL mount. Here are the six SL lenses you can use right away with the new Panasonic.

Another source suggested the camera might don’t use SD cards:

Not sure on the final choice but uhs-II is not fast enough for top speeds of output.

To sum up this what we know so far (FT5):

  • Panasonic will announce a new Full Frame Mirrorless system camera on September 25
  • Leica SL mount
  • Panasonic will only show a prototype with non finalized specs
  • The new camera will go on market by March 2019
  • Panasonic has designed this new sensor
  • The camera will have way more than 42 Megapixels
  • The camera has excellent video quality

These are the unconfirmed rumors (FT2….may be right or may be wrong):

  • Costs around $3,000
  • Has no on sensor stabilization
  • 2 slot card (probably no SD)
  • 4K with no crop in FF and 10 bit 4:2:2
  • weather sealed
  • Olympus is not joining the Panasonic FF system

You can join the new Panasonic Full Frame Facebook group if you plan to buy this camera. There you can discuss all features and tests once it’s released!

(FT5) Leaked image of the new Sigma 56mm f/1.4 MFT lens!

This is a nice lens! Sigma will announce the new 56mm f/1.4 lens this week. As usual it will be available as native MFT version too. Well this could make up for the fact that Panasonic and Olympus might not announce a new MFT lens at Photokina :)

Note: Image on top and below show the E-mount version. On the very bottom you see the MFT mount version.
