A top source had the chance to test the GX7. He said the image quality of the sensor beats any other MFT camera to date…at any ISO! The sensor isn’t multi-aspect and not organic (that sensor will arrive late 2014). It has 16 MP effective pixels. Actually Panasonic managed to increase the single pixel area and Micro-lenses have been optimized. Also the Venus engine has been improved. And as I told you yesterday the video quality is the same of the GH3. Sounds all great!

This is the first image of the brand new Panasonic GX7 that will be announced in August! As you see Panasonic goal was to revive the glorious Four Thirds L1 camera (here on eBay). And some of you also saw a touch of Fuji X-M1 (very similar back!) on the new GX7. And this could not be casual because Fuji and Panasonic are working together on the new organic sensor tech. That said here are the specs:

– The leaked document says it’s 16Megapixel but I heard it’s 18MP. This makes me think the sensor may be multiaspect. Which means 18 megapixel sensor with 16 megapixels effective resolution (like it was on the GH2!).
– It has a Magnesium body and comes in full black or black-silver.
– It has an on sensor stabilization (first ever for Pana).
– Same video quality as the GH3
– Shutter speed up to 1/8000
– 5fps (4fps with continuous A)
– it can focus also in very dark conditions
– Tiltable 2,76 Million Dot EVF
– Tiltable 3 inch LCD (1,04 Million dots)
– Integrated WiFi and NFC
– Focus peaking
– Stereo Mic
– Shipment in September
– Body only price 1.000 Euro
– There will be two kit version. One with 14-42 and one with 20mm lens.

So, do you like the new Panasonic? Me…yes!

“Yesterday, I went to Fnac store in oder to get a G6. Unfortunately, they only have G6 with kit lens 14-140. As I wanted the body only version, the vendor searched in Fnac products database but the body version wasn’t referenced. He show me the search results for “Pana body only” saying: “sorry, no G6, the only Panasonic that I can order in body only version are the GH3 and GX7. Bingo, I pre-order mine with 200€ account.“

Sadly Fnac had no pictures of the new GX7 but at leats we now know that the GX7 body costs 999 Euro! And all my sources confirmed the GX7 specs. New 18Megapixel sensor, built-in tiltatble EVF, on sensor stabilization (a first on Panasonic MFT cameras). Announcement in August! This is more o rless how it looks (image from panasonic patent):

As you already know Panasonic has two high quality lenses in their roadmap. The 42,5mm f/1.2 and the 150mm f/2.8 primes. Unconfirmed rumors do say that the latter will cost around £2500 (almost 3000 Euro or Dollars). Obviously we don’t know nothing yet about the delivered image quality but the price still sounds way too high. It’s hard to compare it with other lenses. The Olympus 150mm f/2.0 lens costs around $2500 (here at Amazon) but is also one stop faster. I do hope the rumor is wrong!

What’s I can confirm via trusted sources is that both lenses will hit the stores in early 2014 only (although price and specs announcement will be made earlier).

Finally some feedback from trusted sources! One of them just told me that one brand new Olympus MFT lens will be announced in September. He didn’t unveil the specs yet. I hope other sources reading this may share some bits more about it. Anyway, I remember there were rumors about a fast zoom floating around the web. So maybe this one is what is coming now!

I know it’s little info, but this should be just the start of a wave of new FT5 rumors…

And now let’s finally talk about the new Olympus products. We got multiple rumors about an entry level OMD but today one source told us more about the direct E-M5 successor. This one will have the same new EVF as the external VF-4. As a difference with the E-M5 it will have an “actual pronounced grip already part of the body”. The source said the camera is coming in September!

I don’t know yet if Olympus will release both new OMD cameras or just one. I hope to know more about it soon…

P.S.: There will be a FT and a Highe End compact camera too…
