(FT2) New Olympus 25mm f/1.8 and 12-60mm lens coming at Photokina?

Share

[shoplink 23681 ebay][/shoplink] Image on top: The popular [shoplink 23681 ebay]Four Thirds 12-60mm[/shoplink] lens which so many wish to see in a native m43 version.

Mu-43 reports that Olympus may introduce a new 25mm f/1.8 and 12-60mm zoom lens.
The 25mm f/1.8 lens is a bit larger than the [shoplink 14798 ebay]17mm pancake[/shoplink] and built like the [shoplink 23577]45mm lens[/shoplink]. Price is very low and between $200 and $250 like the Four Thirds 25mm lens (here at Amazon).
The 12-60mm f/2.8.4.0 lens is weather sealed and a bit larger than the [shoplink 27977]12-50mm lens[/shoplink]. Price will be around $800-$900. A bit less than the popular [shoplink 23681 ebay]Four Thirds version[/shoplink].

The rumor hasn’t been confirmed by my trusted sources yet and even mu-43 doesn’t know the source. I hope it’s not a wishful thinking of someone so I posted it with a low FT2 rating (and probably I was too generous). Anyway, let’s imagine for a moment that this is a real thing:

First Olympus 75mm resolution test by Pekka Potka

Share

The 75mm with the optional lens hood

The conclusion from Pekka Potka tells it all: “I have very little more to write about this lens. When something is average, there are usually many sides you can ponder. Now there aren’t. Just add all the superlatives you can think of if you want to make this blog longer.” The lens is sharp in the center and in the border at any aperture. There are only negligible differences. It’s really the sharpest Olympus M43 lens ever released.
Here is a picture of the lens on the E-P3 and here a picture of the lens on the Black E-M5. Black camera with Silver lens doesn’t really look good. I hope Olympus will release a Black version too!

(FT5) HOT! Major Panasonic announcement in early July!

Share

There is no vacation for a rumor website like me :(  Top sources just unveiled that Panasonic will have a major product announcement in early July. They didn’t share the “stuff” list but I was told that there are many new cameras. I am pretty sure we will finally see the new Panasonic G5. I am not sure about the LX6 yet. And I don’t expect any new m43 lens. The G5 should use the same [shoplink 22077 ebay]G3[/shoplink] 16 Megapixel sensor. What will change is the shape of the camera.

Stay tuned guys!

P.S.: I am moving to my new house in the middle of nowhere on the Pyrenees on July 5th. Please Panasonic no announcement on that day! :)

Some tech issues on 43rumors…

Share

For weeks now I am solving a series of minor issues on 43rumors and Mirrorlessrumors. I disabled the member messaging and member registration. The main reason is that I want to do a full checkup and upgrade that solves any spam or loading issue. If all works fine in two weeks 43rumors will load faster and be more spam-proof. Yesterday the website was offline for a coupel of hours. The main problem was MirrorlessRumors that had a broken comment system (now fixed).

Thanks for the patience! And now let’s go one with a real FT5 rumors…coming soon ;)

Panasonic LX5 now for $319. LX6 announcement close?

Share

It is not a Micro Four Thirds camera but one of these cameras that many of us carry in their pocket. It now sell for $319 at Amazon (including the free $50 gift card). The new LX6 should have a larger sensor, maybe exactly as large as the Sony RX100 (Click here for specs and price).

Here is the question to you guys. If the LX6 has a fast zoom lens and large 1inch sensor…

Would you consider to use this camera instead of a PEN or GF/GX camera?
