Journey (Olympus OM-D E-M5) from Andrew Reid on Vimeo.

Before to start. Be aware of mistakes on eBay. A reader pounted me out that “someone” is selling the E-M5 battery grip for 2.500 Euro ([shoplink 32323 ebay]Click here to see the auction[/shoplink]). I see those kind of “mistakes” all the time :(

UPDATE: Body only in Stock at Amazon (Click here).

Our friend Andrew from EosHD (Click here) posted an E-m5 review focusing more on the video aspects of the camera: “There are some things the OM-D E-M5 does better even in video mode than the competition including even the GH2. Unfortunately the image quality in video mode is not an all-out winner like the stills mode.

Steve Huff tested the 12-50mm kit lens: “It’s a good lens though not a GREAT “wow” lens.

DxO Optics Pro 7.5.2 gains Olympus E-M5 and Panasonic GF5 support (Dpreview).

43rumors loading issues solved and comment system back…

Share

Yesterdays Canon mirrorless leaks posted on CanonWatch and MirrorlessRumors made the full server crash several times. The leaking done by my friend Frank on CW was a full surprise (he didn’t expect to find the pictures) and many websites picked it up. Unfortunately I was on trip on the French mountains and I had only bad Internet connection in few spots. I really gave my best to solve the issues. Loading time should now be ok and I also just fixed the comment system (I didn’t notice it wasn’t working until a few moments ago).

Now, I hope the upcoming PEN and GH3 announcements will create at least the same viral effect of the Canon EOS-M but that time I will be prepared. I am thinking to move on a bigger server as I really don’t want you to miss any second of the next late August release.

Wish you a nice weekend and remind you to follow the Canon announcement on CanonWatch (adminstrated by Frank) and MirrorlessRumors (where I am having the fun). On 43rumors I am working to get details about the next cameras. Will have less time for mountain trips in the next weeks :(

75mm lens delayed, E-M5 in Stock and look at the Sony RX100!

Share

Right now I have been told there is a short delay on the US Olumpus 75mm lens shipment. Nothing to worry about but the message on BHphoto (Click here) isn’t correct. Meantime the Black E-m5 kit keeps to be in Stock at Amazon (Click here). The X pancake sells for $279 only at Amazon (Click here).

Something else. Neither the new G5 nor the high end compact camera LX7 managed to get huge amount of preorders at least when looking at the Amazon (pre-order) rankings. The real hit of the moment is the surprising Sony RX100 (on top!). There seems to be a market for high quality but still very compact cameras with zoom lens. May something Olympus and Panasonic have to watch out!

Preorders of the new Panasonic stuff:
Black G5 at Amazon (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here)
Silver G5 at Amazon (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here)
45-150mm lens in Black at BHphoto (Click here) and in Silver at BHphoto (Click here).
LX7 in Black at Amazon (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here) in White at Amazon (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here)
Other compacts, the FZ200 at BHphoto (Click here), the FZ60 at BHphoto (Click here).

Some more Canon Mirrorless vs Micro Four Thirds news from sources…

Share

I had the chance to talk with some sources about the new Canon Mirrorless camera. With the launch of the Canon mirrorless we now have a full and final view of the mirrorless system. The sources once again confirmed that Canon has chosen an APS-C sized sensor. Canon didn’t want to give any kind of advantage to Sony. Apparently they fear Sony more than m43!

The sources also told us that the first camera feels a bit cheap in your hands. And according to them it’s not a m43 killer camera. Quite the opposite. The NEX cameras are still better in doing competition to m43 cameras. Overalla Nikon and Canon had a very cautious way of entering the mirrorless world. One more thing: A more advanced Canon (and Nikon) camera will arrive in a few months only.

But that’s just a first impression based on my sources. Let’s see on Monday if the Canon system is something interesting or not. Follow the full news coverage on MirrorlessRumors or CanonWatch!!!

And here it is the REAL(!) first Canon mirrorless. Next strong competition for the m43 system!

At the end even the biggest the king of the digital camera sales is about to release a mirrorless camera system. The image on top has been found at digicame-info (via Canonwatch). The model name is EOS M (name on top of the camera). And on tha picture you see the EF-M 22mm f/2 STM pancake lens. It has a new New mount called EF-M (“M” for “mirrorless”?). For us it’s interetsing to know that very likely Canon is not going to use a Canon G1X Four Thirds sized sensor!

Stay tuned on MirrorlessRumors to follow all Canon related rumors and news! We will follow the Canon event live on Monday July 23th! Announcement starts at 6-7 am London time!

First impression: The Canon mirrorless camera is a...

(FT3) High End OM camera coming within the next 6 months? E-M5 price drop this winter.

Share

The special Olympus adapter patent (via Egami).

Two (anonymous) sources sent me the same short and precise message. The High End digital OM camera is already in the final testing phase. And one of the sources wrote that the actual [shoplink 29074]Olympus E-M5[/shoplink] will get a price drop this winter because of the new E-Mx camera. I hope trusted sources are reading this and can confirm (or deny) the rumor soon. Meantime thanks to the two new sources for sending me this! Hope you can share us some more bits about the cam soon!

I have no specs yet but as I told you back in January Olympus managers said that they are focusing on the viewfinder technology. So this camera may be able to use both electronic and optical viewfinders but in a different way than the Fuji X PRO 1. It may will use a special adapter with built-in mirror instead. We already have seen some patents regarding this from Olympus and Sony NEX adapter (Click here) and even better the [shoplink 31778 ebay]Leica Visoflex (here on eBay)[/shoplink] prove that this is a realizable goal. But that’s just pure speculation for now.

Have an idea…may you write here what you would expect form a High End OM camera? What should it have? Will than put a poll on that!

Two new reviews to confirm the new Oly 75mm lens is perfectly…boring ;)

Share

Before to to start, the E-M5 with 14-42mm lens is right now in Stock at Amazon (Click here), and so the E_m5 + 12-50mm kit again at Amazon (Click here). That said let’s go back to the “boring” news! The german Digitalkamera (Tranlsation here) and the japanese DC.watch (Translation here) websites posted a new Olympus 75mm lens review. Conclusion? Boring easy…the lens is almost perfect! If you need a lens of that focal length just buy it! ;)

It’s the same conclusion we read at Lensrentals, DSLRmagazine (Translation here), Robin Wong (part two) , Robin Wong (part one), Pekka Potka and SLRgear.

There is another good news. US stores will start shipping your preordered lens tomorrow: Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here)J&R(Click here) and BHphoto (Click here).
Also in Europe  Amazon Germany (Click here), Amazon UK (Click here), Amazon France (Click here) and Amazon Italy (Click here) will very likely ship the lens by end of the month.
In Asia it’s already available at Amazon Japan, Digitalrev and on [shoplink 31284 ebay]eBay[/shoplink].
