So for now we know that Olympus is going to announce a 60mm macro lens, 60mm ring flash adapter and a crazy 15mm f/8.0 and 9mm thick pancake. No cameras yet! E-PM2 (or E-PM5) and E-PL5 coming in mid September!

Panasonic contrast AF versus Canon Hybrid AF comparison.

Share

During the last years Panasonic and Olympus achieved impressive results on the AF performance. As you know they rely on the contrast AF only. Canon, Nikon (and soon Sony too) are using a hybrid contrast and phase detection AF on their mirrorelss cameras like on the new Canon EOS-M. The video on top has been made by Dpreview to shows the comparison between the G5 AF and the 650D AF.

I think the real advantage of phase detetion is the continous AF on moving objects. On still objects the Panasonic easily beats the Canon!

BY the way, the new Panasonic G5 arrived in Europe and is in Stock at Jessops and on [shoplink 32831 ebay]eBay UK (Click here)[/shoplink].

The message issued by Adorama

The Panasonic 100-300mm zoom is now out of Stock in all bigger US stores like Amazon, Adorama and BHphoto. I haven’t got any info about a possible replacement about the lens but Amazon US (Click here) even removed the preorder option!

Meantime our reader Eric sent me the screenshots of the OM-D iPad application that includes info about the 60mm macro lens. Click on the images to open the full size version. P.S.: iPad app download on iTunes (Click here).

P.S.: The never ending success story of the E-Pl1 continues…it is again on top of the Amazon rankings (Click here to see).

European Compact System Camera 2012-2013 – Olympus OM-D E-M5 from EISA on Vimeo.

EISA just announced he 2012 award winners. The E-M5 won the price in the category best “European Compact System Camera“. But honestly, it isn’t that difficult to win a price if you create three different categories for mirrorless cameras:
European Compact System Camera (Winner: [shoplink 29074]Olympus OM-D E-M5[/shoplink])
European Advanced Compact System Camera (Winner: Samsung NX20)
European Professional Compact System Camera (Winner: Fujifilm X-Pro1)

Olympus also won the price for the best “European All Weather Camera” with the Olympus TOUGH TG-1.

The best “European Compact System Lens” is the [shoplink 31225]Panasonic LUMIX G X VARIO 12-35mm F2.8 ASPH[/shoplink] (you can watch the EISA video here).

(FT5) An Olympus 15mm f/8.0 super small lens is coming…really f/8.0!

[shoplink 32796 ebay][/shoplink] Image on top: The [shoplink 32796 ebay]Leica Perara Triplet[/shoplink]. One of the smallest lens ever made.

What a surprise!

We just heard from our top sources that Olympus super cheap m43 lens will be a 15mm f/8.0 fixed aperture prime! It has a length of 9mm only!!! At first glance I thought this may would be a pinhole lens ([shoplink 32795 ebay]there is one from SLRmagic here[/shoplink]) but I have been told this lens….has lenses :) It will have about the dimension of the [shoplink 32796 ebay]Leica Perara Triplet[/shoplink] (the image you see on top).

Very likely the goal from Olympus is to set a new mark in the miniaturization war. Makes me wonder what they will do with the upcoming E-PM5…make it small as a [shoplink 32797 ebay]Minox[/shoplink]???

E-M5 catalog for the iPad. 75mm best tested lens ever at Photoreview.

Share

Olympus released a special OM-D Guidebook for your iPad. You can see the application description on iTunes (Click here). And a two months review has been published by ePhotozine.

Now, let’s talk about the Olympus 75mm f/1.8 lens. This lens is shipping in low quantities in Europe and in US (at BHphoto). I guess you have to wait 1-2 weeks until to see them in Stock. Meantime Photoreview Australia tested the lens and wrote: “The M. Zuiko Digital ED 75mm f/1.8 lens has produced the best set of test results of any lens we have tested in the last decade. Couple that with superior build quality, compact size and ease of use with the E-M5 (and other) camera bodies and it’s difficult not to be impressed.” (Thanks Mark for the link!).

(FT5) “Smaller” Olympus announcement next week (60mm macro and more).

Share

75mm f/1.8 and 60mm f/2.8 macro lenses.

According to top sources there will a “smaller” Olympus announcement next week. I am using the word “smaller” because it looks like the new PEN cameras will be announced later (in September). Easy to guess that Olympus will introduce the already shown 60mm f/2.8 macro lens. There is a chance that more accessories and maybe two other lenses will be released too…

Stay tuned on 43rumors! Finally we can start the big pre Photokina announcement period!

One more thing: Also Schneider announced the release of a 60mm f/2.4 macro in 2013. I hope they will withdraw that decision and make a m43 version of one of those already existing lenses instead:
