Curiousity: GH3 shipping in EU and US long before it ships in Japan! +GH3 Battery preorder options.

Share

Until now all Lumix G cameras started to be shipped in Japan first and than (slowly) spread over the rest of the world. It looks like the Panasonic management decided to go the exact opposite way around. Amazon Japan ships the camera on Dec 13th but you can already get it in EU and US:
in US preorders are now shipping at Amazon, Adorama, BHphoto, Panasonic store and Samys.
In EU these stores are having the GH3 in Stock right now: Wexphotographic UK, Amazon UK, [shoplink 35309 ebay]Photoexpress UK[/shoplink], Wex Germany, Technikdirekt (DE), [shoplink 35311 ebay]Webdistirbution FR[/shoplink], FotoHansKeuzekamp(NL).

That may be some kind of make it good action from Panasonic for all the time we had to wait on the previous G cameras shipments :)

GH3 batteries:
The battery is now available for preorder at BHphoto (Click here) and in Stock and shipping at [shoplink 35314 ebay]Photoexpress UK[/shoplink]. The UK store is also the only one shipping the [shoplink 35316 ebay]vertical grip (Click here)[/shoplink].

12-35mm X price drop at Amazon US:
There is still no GH3 kit order option in US. Meantime the 12-35mm X lens got a new $100 price drop via Amazon itself (Click here). Third party reseller Panacam sells even for even less via Amazon (Click here). One more little thing: Some nice deals on smaller accessories at Amazon Gold Box.

P.S.: All current GH3 auctions can be monitored on eBay (via Slidoo).

Let me catch up with a couple of new reviews of MFT cameras and lenses:

The cheapest price I found in Europe is 810 Euro in [shoplink 35293 ebay]France (Click here)[/shoplink] and 830 Euro in [shoplink 35292 ebay]Germany (Click here)[/shoplink]. As I mentioned yesterday yu can check for price drops via Slidoo :)
The newer sister lens sells for 1.010 Euro via [shoplink 35294 ebay]Fotomundus (Click here)[/shoplink].

GH3 shipping at BH and Adorama. RAW support from Apple.

Mme Sokhna Fall from Bas de Meijer on Vimeo.

We have been told that after Amazon, Wexphotographic UK and Wex Germany also stores like Adorama, BHphoto and Samys are shipping the camera. The official Panasonic store is also set to ship the camera today.
Apple also released the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 4.02 that now brings support for the GH3 and for the new PEN cameras.

Kimletkeman used the new Focus Numeriqe RAW files to post an interesting High ISO Shootout between the GH3, E-M5 and G5. A very well written articele!

Readers keep sending me links ot their work done on the GH3:
Arnoud sent me the video you can watch on top of this post: “Very well made video of Story on madame Sokhna Fall, worker in the informal economy in Dakar, Senegal. She runs a shop, but is also president of a ‘groupement mutuelle’, a kind of micro credit. The group is supported by the national trade union UDTS (Union Démocratique des Travailleurs de Sénégal).  via Pf.nl
Dario Battaglia shot this GH3 movie in Sicily (on vimeo).
Nick Driftwood posted the second part of his ongoing GH3 review (on vimeo).
Bass:Not really a rumour but first pictures from my new GH3 that people may be interested in. I will update this gallery over the next few days. http://www.pbase.com/bassrock/gh3
John:Not a rumour: apologies if I come through on wrong channel! (Please put me right) Taking up Steve’s point about overpriced GH3 in Scotland, you might like to ask Panasonic UK why prices there are so much higher than elsewhere.  UK price GH3 £1199.  I can buy in Europe at €1199 (£972). My brother in Canada can buy at $1299+13% tax = $1468 (£924), and USA price similar. Why are UK photographers always penalised?

Check price and delivery dates at Amazon , Adorama, BhphotoPanasonic USSamys and in Europe at Wexphotographic UK, Wex Germany, Technikdirekt and soon on eBay (via Slidoo).

Panasonic GH3 ISO test at Focus Numerique (with E-M5 comparison).

Share

The French website Focus Numerique (translation here) tested the Panasonic GH3 ISO performance. You can compare the ISO results with those of the Olympus E-M5 and Sony NEX-7. As expected the JPEG engine of the Olympus manages to get slightly better results at High ISO. But if you shot in RAW than there is really little difference between the two (you can download the RAW files at Focus Numerique).

The GH3 is right now in Stock at Wexphotographic UK (Click here) and at Wex Germany (Click here) and preorders are shipping at Amazon, Adorama and Samys. Plenty of them are also available on [shoplink 33624 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].

Olympus is investigating the OM-D Cracked Screen Bezels issue.

Share

ePhotozine reports that “Olympus is to investigate cracking around the screws of the screen bezel on Olympus OM-D models after many users discovered that their cameras have the fault. There is debate as to whether this is a manufacturing fault where the screws have been over tightened, causing the plastic screen bezel to crack, or whether it is down to the quality of the plastic itself. Olympus are unsure whether the problem is due to a faulty batch, and is currently looking into the issue.

We just had these nice E-M5 deals for Black Friday….. I hope they didn’t ship you a faulty batch of cameras!

Speaking of US deals:
Four Thirds owner may be inetrested to know that there are new rebates on Samyang/Bowler lenses:
$70 off on the 35mm f/1.4 at at BHphoto (Click here).
$80 off on the 14mm f/2.8 at BHphoto (Click here).
More deals: $1039 for the 12-35mm X zoom at Amazon (via Panacam) and $299 for the G3 with lens at Bhphoto.

(FT2) 14-40mm f/2.8 and 300mm f/4.0 lens from Olympus?

[shoplink 23681 ebay][/shoplink]The [shoplink 23681 ebay]Olympus Zuiko 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0 FT lens[/shoplink].

As you know rumors are circulating around a possible 40-150mm f/2.8 lens (P.S:: not confirmed by any of my trusted sources). But many of you said that a fast zoom in many ways similar to the [shoplink 23681 ebay]Olympus Zuiko 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0 FT lens[/shoplink] would also be welcome. I haven’t heard anything form my trusted sources yet some forum user at Fredmiranda wrote that:

A little birdy told me that, in addition to the 40-150 f/2.8, there will also be a ~14-40ish f/2.8 coming next year, as well as a 300 f/4. The birdy said that the 300 will be about as long as the 75-300, but larger in diameter – no idea how it can be that tiny, but that’s what I was told.

Can’t guarantee on the reliability…but I hope that bird is a real source :)

P.S.: The 12-60mm FT lens on [shoplink 23681 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].

Rumors classification explained (FT= FourThirds):
FT1=1-20% chance the rumor is correct
FT2=21-40% chance the rumor is correct
FT3=41-60% chance the rumor is correct
FT4=61-80% chance the rumor is correct
FT5=81-99% chance the rumor is correct
