Curiousity: GH3 shipping in EU and US long before it ships in Japan! +GH3 Battery preorder options.

Until now all Lumix G cameras started to be shipped in Japan first and than (slowly) spread over the rest of the world. It looks like the Panasonic management decided to go the exact opposite way around. Amazon Japan ships the camera on Dec 13th but you can already get it in EU and US:
in US preorders are now shipping at Amazon, Adorama, BHphoto, Panasonic store and Samys.
In EU these stores are having the GH3 in Stock right now: Wexphotographic UK, Amazon UK, Photoexpress UK, Wex Germany, Technikdirekt (DE), Webdistirbution FR, FotoHansKeuzekamp(NL).

That may be some kind of make it good action from Panasonic for all the time we had to wait on the previous G cameras shipments :)

GH3 batteries:
The battery is now available for preorder at BHphoto (Click here) and in Stock and shipping at Photoexpress UK. The UK store is also the only one shipping the vertical grip (Click here).

12-35mm X price drop at Amazon US:
There is still no GH3 kit order option in US. Meantime the 12-35mm X lens got a new $100 price drop via Amazon itself (Click here). Third party reseller Panacam sells even for even less via Amazon (Click here). One more little thing: Some nice deals on smaller accessories at Amazon Gold Box.

P.S.: All current GH3 auctions can be monitored on eBay (via Slidoo).

  • Well, I just received my GH3 (plus some other kit inc 12-35 lens etc) to replace my GH2. I’m planning on shooting more videos in and around Rejvkavik in December. Here’s my GH3 unboxing video if interested:

    • Heat Legend

Dam I wanted to be the first to do an unboxing lol.. I guess now I don’t have to spend the time doing one! Mine’s scheduled to arrive on Tuesday. Enjoy the camera.

    • Pavlo

      Wow! Stylish bag ;)

Don’t forget to post Rejkjavik report!

      • If you get a Billingham camera bag, then you’ve got to buy a good camera to go with it…

What is there remotely interesting about watching someone open a box, unless of course the box was empty, that would be interesting…..

      • eM

I always watch it on big screen with headphones and trying to imagine that it’s me who’s unboxing it :P

    • Where’d you find a kit with the 12-35? I could only find the body only for pre-order.

      • From a quick browse, several UK places have the kit with 12-35 in stock, like Wex Photographic, Photo Express, etc.

      • Esa Tuunanen

Looks like at least few Austrian shops have gotten all three kits

This Panasonic’s camera is so bad in dynamic range almost like a mobile camera.
Watch this to see what a Android mobile camera can do (20 000 kb/s bitrate with this free application):

The ignorance is strong in this one.

      • homer

ignorance is when you talk about something you dont know about but think you do, this is not ignorance, This guy is an idiot

    • Kuba

      Change your narco-dealer please…

  • Phil

From Paris in France, i have both my GH3 and a supplemental battery ! Bravo to Panasonic !

    • Zoulou

from which store did you get it ?

  • Gordon

FYI: I see the vertical grip available for preorder at

    • corkcampbell

Thanks for that tip; first time I’ve seen the price for the grip. And I like Adorama. Seems that the weight that they give for it might be wrong – perhaps that’s with the camera.

  • HMR

$1200 is Still to high for me. I’m all in on the 12-35 when it hits $999 U.S.

I meant – reply to dadix commentary

  • The reason for this might be a logical. This larger model fits larger hands of people in EU and US better, so that market is bigger.

Still nothing over here in Taiwan : (

I discovered the DMC-GH2 to spring, 2011 after having the DMC-GF1 which remains for me one of the best cameras never had. The DMC-GH2 is compact and gets a video image widely superior to my “old” camcorder HVR-Z5 Sony. Only the audio is the poor part of the Camera. I realized numerous Documentaries or institutional Movies with it.
Today, the DMC-GH3 is very present. I have already had the opportunity to use it with a preserie one month ago. Watch the second film below. I was then rather septic by comparing the images with regard to the DMC-GH2. I saw not many differences.
The holding in hand of the GH3 is really in improvement. We are close to the one of a Dslr as Canon, Nikon, Sony, etc. On the contrary, Panasonic has the measles, there are buttons everywhere, the famous Fn. Some are rather badly placed like the one dedicated to the WiFi. Situated near the trigger, it is not rare to engage it by mistake.
For my very great disappointment, the DMC-GH3 is not Pal and Ntsc like it was announced or like that is presented in Panasonic Brochure. The DMC-GH3 is only Pal or Ntsc according to the continent where it is sold. Only the reading is commutative in Pal or Ntsc. It is really a less for me. Most of my Clients in Europe come from Usa, Japan, etc. A Transcoding always degrades an image in contrario of a shooting and an editing in Native. It also causes jerks on the panoramic or zoom. If in most of the Countries, the DVD readers are Pal and Ntsc, you should not forget that most of the DVD readers in Usa and in Japan are only NTSC.
Take care to th screen at the back of the DMC-GH3, it tends to glorify the Images. No, what is read does not correspond to what will be recorded. The Editing with the All-Intra Mode is difficult. Everything is really Heavy, load. Even with a Mac Pro 8 Hearts with Final Cut Pro 7.03 or Final Cut Pro X.
Certain details irritate. If it is easy to place a Battery in the Charger, it is more difficult to remove it from it. But the most irritating concern the Headphone plug. It is badly placed. As soon as a headphone is connected to the DMC-GH3, the screen is not directional any more. The audio Level is not equivalent to that stemming from a Camcorder. The control Sound is not obvious.
I thanks Images Photo Paris for their Advises and Panasonic Europe for their Answers to my Questions. On the contrary, I do not thank Panasonic France for their Silence which curls the Contempt. When we are independent Journalist and when we used the DMC-GH2 in a professional way since Mars 2011, we are entitled to another quality of Service. Sony Pro is more… Professional.

Actually, this Japan-last approach started with the G5. That camera was on sale in the rest of the world before it was EVEN ANNOUNCED as an upcoming product in Japan. It is now finally available. Panasonic has changed its roll-out practices of late it seems.
