Panasonic manager says “8K on Micro 4/3 is complicated, if not impossible.”

Well this is going to make some headlines today. Panasonic France manager told in an interview released at Mizuwari that “8K on Micro 4/3 is complicated, if not impossible.” This statement is nearly the opposite of what Panasonic told back in 2017 (read article here). So let’s hope Panasonic France only messed a bit up with the words :)

Also remember that Olympus also said 8K on MFT cameras is on their roadmap (article here). This should be evidence enough to confirm that 8K is coming on MFT cameras too.

Panasonic talked a lot about their Full Frame engadgement too and you can read the translated highlights on this over at L-rumors.com (Click here).

(FT5) Olympus will launch a new 150-400mm f/4.5(???) in January

Two source confirmed that one of the lenses Olympus will announce with the E-M1X in January will be a 150-400mm with constant aperture. One source said the constant aperture is f/4.0 while another said it’s f/4.5.

I guess that one of the sources made a typo…can you please let me know which one it is? Thanks :)

Both sources confirmed there will be a 1.2x teleconverter too!

Panasonic: L-mount partnership is like marriage while with Olympus “we were just living together”

Dpreview interviewed interviewed the managers of the three companies involved in the L-mount project. Panasonic had quite some interesting thins to say:

“This alliance is like marriage. The previous arrangement [with Olympus] was more like we were just living together. So the obligation [now] is a little more high-level.”

Sounds like theyare not 100% happy with the Olympus partnership! Still, Panasonic made it clear that they are very committed to MFT. When asked if they will develop APS-C L-mount lenses too they answered:

“We will only develop [L mount products] for full-frame sensors.”

Panasonic also explained why they need Full Frame:

“Panasonic’s customer coverage [at present] is maybe more high-level amateurs, not professionals. The new [customer segment] of videographers appreciates what we’ve introduced for movie making, but still there are customer segments that we cannot reach. So the L mount gives us a chance to challenge in these top-end segments. I hope that the L mount gives us a chance to complete our lineup, [by] supporting our current Micro Four Thirds business.”

Panasonic S1R camera confirmed by Sankei to cost $4,000+

Back In September when nobody really believed in my Panasonic Full Frame rumors (LOL) I told you the S1R would cost around $4,000. Well Sankei confirmed that indeed the price will be around 500,000 yen. Converted in US dollars this is about $4,500 but we know prices in US area usually lower than the simple conversion rate.

I am not sure the price is justified. In my opinion it should be $3400 like the Nikon Z7. I know the Panasonic S1R has 4k60p which the Nikon has not. But Panasonic is the underdog in the FF world and they have to keep the price as low as it gets.

via L-rumors.

Note: I know this isn’t a strictly MFT related news. But the failure or success of the new Panasonic FF adventure will have a direct effect on the MFT system. Moreover some of the tech we get on those new S1-S1R cameras will be used on MFT cameras too.
