Panasonic developed a “Lytro-alike” Lightfield system camera. For sale in 2016.

Sankeibiz reports that Panasonic has developed a Lightfield digital system camera. It works just like the well-known [shoplink 54342 ebay]Lytro camera (here on eBay)[/shoplink]. The camera allows you to refocus the image in post production (see the official Panasonic example above). But unlike the Lytro this is actually a system camera! There is no word yet if it has a Micro Four Thirds or another new mount. Let’s hope it’s MFT!
Sankeibiz says Panasonic will commercialize the camera sometimes in 2016.

The advantage of such a camera is that you would never “miss the focus” in any shot as everything on the image or video would be “in focus”. More info about Light field cameras can be read on Wikipedia.

Panasonic statement about the G7 rubber-off serial numbers.

Panasonic_G7_Silver
Panasonic G7 owners may have noticed the serial number on the camera can rubbers-off. Panasonic US released an official statement about the matter:

Panasonic has just become aware that some customers who recently purchased DMC-G7s are experiencing rubbed-off printing of the camera’s serial number tag and we apologize for any concern this may have caused. Any reference that these are “knockoff” cameras is not factual. We have already informed our factory in Japan who is investigating these reports. Be assured that this will not have any negative impact on the camera’s warranty. Your warranty is validated by the proof of purchase from an official retailer and the serial number clearly appears on the carton’s UPC label. All customers should retain these two documents in addition to registering your camera on the Panasonic web site in the unlikely event that you require service. https://secure2.prodregister.com/pnaportal/index.aspx

Some fun: Very old Olympus Trip commercial with James Hunt :)

Andrew sent me this:Not sure if you’ve ever posted this before, I’ve never seen it. Someone posted in the Olympus SLR forum on DPreview with a picture of an Olympus Sponsored Racecar driven by James Hunt (famous driver). I googled that and found this commercial from ~1979 for Olympus featuring James Hunt.”

The Olympus Trip 35 fixed lens camera can be found used on [shoplink 35471 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]. It’s also rumored that a digital version will be released by Olympus sometimes this year…
