New Olympus patent discloses a “G3” alike camera (and three m43 lens patents).

Share

UPDATE: I don’t know yet if the japanese friends from Egami (Click here) did make a mistake and may misunderstood the japanese patent. The camera on top looks more like a superzoom camera than a new m43 cameras.

P.S.: After three years and fifteen(!) m43 cameras there is still no compact camera with built-in viewfinder on the corner a là [shoplink 22259 ebay]Olympus 35SP (Click here to see that cam)[/shoplink]! Maybe it’s just me wanting that kind of cameras? Looking at the preorder success of the [shoplink 25396]Sony NEX-7[/shoplink] I believe the answer is no, I am not the only one!

And than we have three new Micro Four Thirds lens patents for the Olympus 10mm f/2.8, 12mm f/2.8 and 12mm f/2.0. These are the specs:

Example One Two Three
Focal length f [mm] 12.187 12.284 10.711
Fno 2.051 2.838 2.857
Angle [deg] 91.2 90.4 98.3
Image heights [mm] 11.15
Back Focus [mm] 15.041 15.092 14.536
Length [mm] 60.667 47.592 50.036
Minimum focusing distance [cm] 20
Aspherical [surface] Four
Configuration 11 images in 9 groups Nine elements in 8 groups Nine elements in 8 groups

I guess that this are just three different prototypes of the newly announced [shoplink 23576]Olympus 12mm f/2.0[/shoplink] lens. Don’t think we will ever see a 10mm f/2.8 lens.

Olympus Woodford vs Managment saga continues…

Share

Olympus Tokyo released a statement that can be read here: http://www.olympus-global.com/en/corc/ir/tes/pdf/nr111019.pdf . In short, Olympus says that while the facts MR. woodford are presenting are true “his report contains a large amount of material that is based on supposition and speculation and the company believes its content is at variance with the facts and open to misinterpretation’“. And: “Olympus confirmed that Woodford ‘remains a director of the company at this point in time”.

And here is the very serious part of the story: According to Amateur Photographer: “It could be several weeks before the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) decides whether or not to launch an official investigation into claims made by former Olympus CEO Michael Woodford.

And the very very very serious part is that Olympus shares value is still falling down and down and down: http://www.bloomberg.com/quote/7733:JP

(FT5) GX1 coming on November 8! With G3 sensor + specs leaked!

Share

Together with Digicaminfo I worked to get and confirm the GX1 specs. And that collaboration really made it possible to have an FT5 rumor (Thanks!). Here are the specs:

Design is very similar to [shoplink 14828]GF1[/shoplink] with some “touch” of [shoplink 26385 ebay]LC1[/shoplink].
It has the same 16 Megapixel G3 sensor.
New image processing engine and ISO12800.
The fastest AF of all Panasonic cameras: 0.09 seconds AF!
Electronic Level
920,000 dots touchscreen LCD (non tiltable!!!)
LVF2 external viewfinder with 1,440,000 dots. (no Built-in EVF)
Color: black, silver.
Camera will be first released on japanese market on November 25. A couple of weeks later in Europe and than US.

Take a look at the LC1 on [shoplink 26385 ebay]eBay[/shoplink]. I guess it will have that kind of grip and built quality.

What do you think about the GX1 specs?

(FT5) GX1 has no built-in viewfinder. New external viewfinder coming!

Share

HOT news! I am now receiving the top info from top sources about the GX1. The camera has NOT a built-in viewfinder. But there will be a new external high resolution viewfinder! The camera will compete against the [shoplink 26379]Sony NEX-5n[/shoplink] and will have a very similar price. I am currently working on the specs. So stay tuned on 43rumors ok! I will have plenty of news soon!

Price of the NEX-5n: [shopcountry 26379].

(UPDATED from FT3 to FT1) GX1 to be announced on Oct 25 and design close to GF1 and without built-in EVF? (Digicaminfo)

Share

Will the GX1 have or nor a built-in viewfinder like the one described in the Panasonic United States Patent Application 20100060771?

Important update: Two sources quickly answered me that the rumor from Digicam-info about the GX1 coming next week is NOT correct. I ask these anonymous sources if they can also tell me if the rest from the rumor is correct or wrong (GF1 design and no built-in viewfinder info).

What did Digicam-info say? According to their sources the GX1 will be announced next week the October 25. And they also say the GX1 will NOT have a built-in viewfinder and that the design is very close to the [shoplink 14828 ebay]Panasonic GF1[/shoplink].

As I said, my sources said the release date is not correct, let’s also hope they will tell me that it is not an exact copy of the GF1. I would be very disappointed if the only GX1 new feature would be a slightly improved sensor. I hope that there will be more than just that coming form Panasonic!

Nikon and Sony production down for 1-2 months!

Share

First I want to say that I wish all our Thai readers and friends all the best to recover from the huge flood that hit their country. What’s coming next is just a technical informative report about the consequences of the flood on Nikon and Sony’s industry. As you see from the image on top (Source: Nationalmultimedia) the Nikon and Sony factories have been submerged by water. I talked with my sources about the current situation in the area and they told me there will be a production stop of at least one-two months! Nikon will probably delay the D800 announcement and Sony will delay the [shoplink 8454]Sony NEX-7[/shoplink] shipment. Also Amazon.com (Click here) is not taking any NEX-7 preorders anymore with the following reason: “Due to manufacturing concerns”. And the surprising thing is that they invite buyers to buy m43 cameras because “These sleek new cameras with lens versatility are available today” (again, click here to read).

What does it mean for m43? The NEX-7 gained a lot of attention from the press and photographers. If the NEX-7 will be delayed until January or even February than this could be a big chance for the upcoming Panasonic GX1 camera. It’s not “Schadensfreude” (malicious joy). It’s a matter of fact that if the GX1 will be similar to the NEX-7 than some of buyers may will get that camera instead of the Sony. Anyway, it’s up to Panasonic now to not disappoint us!
