(FT2) Confirmed and Unconfirmed details of Panasonic FF camera

An anonymous source sent me the following rumor about the new Panasonic FF camera. Note that this is from a new source meaning it could be completely wrong. But I do hope trusted sources can read this and quickly tell me if what’s written here is right or wrong:

Confirmed and Unconfirmed details of Panasonic FF camera from a mid level Panasonic engineer who worked on early camera development:

Unconfirmed: the camera will use a new Panasonic sensor unsure of MP but believed to be around 30MP

Confirmed: full frame readout in 4k no pixel binning, no crop in 4k 24/25

Confirmed: internal 4k 10bit 4:2:2 recording up to 60p (all i frames in 24/25 believed to be around 200mbs)

Unconfirmed: possible 4k raw recording (may be external output only, there had been some early difficulty with hdmi and raw output)

Unconfirmed: two card slots not sure if they are 2 x sdxc or 1x cfast 2.0 and 1x sdxc (probably depends on whether raw recording is internal or external)

Unconfirmed: early prototype had no ibis due to sensor size and other internal elements, may change on release.

Unconfirmed: new ff lenses will have is, unsure if all new lenses will have it but if there is no ibis then it would make sense.

Confirmed: audio adaptor similar to gh5 with more robust connection and additional controls

Partially Confirmed: there will be some type of variable nd, not sure if this is an add on adaptor or built in.

Confirmed: adaptors will be available for other lens mounts canon ef etc… unsure if they will work with the nd adaptor.

Confirmed: weather sealed body, unsure if it is fully weather sealed but speculation is it is shower /splash dust proof.

Ports: headphone, mic, usbc, hdmi, flash to double as timecode sync as with Gh5s

Pricing unavailable: estimated to be in the region of 3k

Panasonic are confident this new camera will be a big seller and will seriously challenge Sony and Canon as the top selling ff mirrorless camera.

I repeat that this info is from a new sources. So please keep that fact in mind when discussing the specs.

Photokina press event on September 25 for both Panasonic and Olympus

The image above you shows you at what time both companies will have their press conferences.

At 12:30 Berlin time Panasonic will disclose their full frame camera prototype. I don’t know if they will also announce some new MFT lenses
At 17:30 Berlin time Olympus will meet their press at the Perspective Playground. I d0n’t expect Olympus to announce any new camera. There is a small chance they will unveil some MFT lenses like the 12mm f/1.2 PRO.

(FT2) totally wild rumors: Panasonic FF to have shorter flange distance and will take current MFT lenses via adapter

This is a wild rumor meaning it’s from a new source and has yet to be verified by my sources. Still, I really do hope this one is true!

The source said the new Panasonic FF camera will have a shorter flange distance compared to the current Micro Four Thirds mount (20mm). And there will be an adapter for MFT lenses! Currently the Nikon Z has the shortest flange distance with 16mm. If Panasonic will have a similar flange distance it would mean there is enough space for a MFT adapter to be made. Of course these lenses would work in crop mode only on the new Panasonic. But still, that’s great news for people who do own MFT lenses!

(FT5) The new Olympus high end camera will be announced in January and feature a new MFT sensor

Olympus will announce a new High End OMD camera in January. It will feature a new MFT sensor with”advanced video features“. This is definitely NOT going to be a FF camera but a new exciting MFT flagship camera!

UPDATE: Another trusted source told this:

while video has obviously been enjoying attention as reported, ensuring that the joy of high quality creative photography is enhanced remains a major part of the anniversary model’s focus.

UPDATED: New Panasonic Full Frame camera “might” have Leica SL mount and ship in March 2019

Rendering of a GH5 camera with Full Frame sensor and FF sensor (just a rendering and not the real camera!!!)

One source just told me this:

1) UPDATED: The new Panasonic FF “might” have the Leica SL mount.
2) The new camera will be announced as a prototype on September 25 but final version will start shipping out in March 2019

There are still many questions that needs to be answered. The first one being…will Olympus join the new system too?
