(FT5) Leaked image of the new Sigma 56mm f/1.4 MFT lens!

This is a nice lens! Sigma will announce the new 56mm f/1.4 lens this week. As usual it will be available as native MFT version too. Well this could make up for the fact that Panasonic and Olympus might not announce a new MFT lens at Photokina :)

Note: Image on top and below show the E-mount version. On the very bottom you see the MFT mount version.

(FT2) Some more unverified Panasonic FF specs…

I have told you many times that Panasonic will announce the development of the new Panasonic FF system camera on September 25. And only few specs will be unveiled. That’s probably why some of the rumors I got are conflicting or may not be right. Here are the latest info I got that has been NOT ve verifiable by my trusted sources:

– HEVC & H.264
– can record 8K (30p, 10BIT external?) and that is main reason for going fullframe
– additional modes are 2k (240p), 2.7K, 4K (120p?), 6K (60p?)
– Super35 Mode for anamorphic shooters
– ProResRaw may be supported with FW upgrades (they will outline a roadmap similiar to GH5)
– special low light mode (whatever that means)
– Photo features comparable to G9
– AI based Autofocus – or DFD next generation. So enhancements can be expected here

Please keep in mind that this rumors is unverified and ranked as FT2 (20-30% chance this is right).

  • Panasonic has designed this new sensor
  • The camera will have way more than 30 Megapixels
  • The camera has excellent video quality

(FT5) Panasonic will launch new DFD2 with Artificial Intelligence….likely with the new Panasonic Full Frame camera!

This is how the current DFD works

A trusted source gave us some insights on the new generation of DFD2 autofocus technology with artifical intelligence:

“Panasonic will not use PDAF pixel on their sensors in the near future. Instead they are working on DFD2 with AI – it may also be possible to “train” your camera. Will come in next year.”

I am 100% sure this info is correct. I am yet not 100% sure this feature will be on the new Panasonic Full Frame camera but a source told me that it’s highly likely as he heard the camera has a new “AI” feature!

(FT5) The new Panasonic FF camera aims for the big guys: Will compete against the Sony A9, Nikon D850 and top Canon cameras

After many discussions with sources I can tell you this:

The new Panasonic Full Frame camera is not just a video focused camera. And most certainly it’s not an entry-level Full Frame. This will be an ultimate High End Full Frame camera that aims to compete against the best cameras of the competition like the Sony A9 and Nikon D850. But it will have two distinctive characteristics:

1) it’s strong in both video (4k) and stills (has High resolution sensor!)
2) It’s cheaper than the competition! -> Unconfirmed…but yet rumored to be around $3,000…

This sounds like a killer camera because it will have three things in one: great video, super speed and high resolution all in one camera!

There is still one major thing we have to learn about: The lens roadmap…I hope there are many fast primes and zoom right from the start! If it used theleica SL mount we will at least have sixe lenses avaialable now. They have great quality but also a great price (see here) :(

To sum up this what we know so far (FT5):

  • Panasonic will announce a new Full Frame Mirrorless system camera on September 25
  • Panasonic will only show a prototype with non finalized specs

(FT3) Seems like Olympus plays no role in the new Panasonic FF system while Leica might be partner of it…

I am not certain yet about this. But it seems like:

1) Olympus is not joining the Panasonic FF system
2) Leica may have a connection to it.

I previously had heard that Panasonic might NOT use the Leica SL mount…but now I am not certain about this anymore as I have been told “there is a connection”.
