(FT3) There will be a new entry level OMD in September?

Two anonymous sources got hints about a new entry level OMD camera that will be cheaper (and not a replace!) than the current E-M5. I am working on the camera specs now but if the rumor is correct I don’t know if that is a bold move from Olympus. Anyway, it would mean that we can expect three new cameras to be announced in early September:

– Low end OMD model
– High end compact camera with fixed lens
– High end camera (FT or hybrid FT-MFT)

Rumors from others: Samsung goes Android, Sony makes new RX and Fuji X100s gets water damaged.

There will be no new MFT announcement this month. But the compettiton isn’t standing still and we will see many new cameras in the two coming weeks:

Samsung:
Samsung will launch the Galaxy NX camera with Android OS on June 20. (more info at MirrorlessRumors).

Sony:
Sony will launch two new RX cameras, the RX1R and RX100MII. (more info at MirrorlessRumors).

Fuji:
Fuji will announce a new entry level X camera. But they better be sure to take care of their shipments because the latest Fuji X100s US shipment got water damaged :) (more info at MirrorlessRumors).

Reminder: The big Olympus and Panasonic camera and lens release are expected by late August and early September.

(FT2) New rumors about next OMD camera (has 15 stops DR?)

A couple of 43rumors readers linked me to the latest post written by Bradley Cox on the Olympus E community flickr forum. Obviously I cannot guarantee the info he got from his “source” is correct. But if the info is correct than there is a good reason to be excited:

During the interdiction phase of a workshop I attended the instructor talked about how he was leaving Nikon and going to move to Olympus. He said the Oly rep who had contacted him talked about the next OM D, and that it was a collaboration between Olympus Sony and Fuji and that the was going to have something like 15 stops of latitude and offer much more than anything we have seen to date. He is a well know national photographer. He was excited to see my gear. It left me very excited about whats next. Said it would be out this year.

I rated this rumor as FT2 because I still didn’t get reliable info from trusted sources about the possible dynamic range of the new OMD. All I know is that the camera is definitely not the E-M5 successor and it’s going to be announce din September along other new cameras and lenses!

(FT4) New sensor to be ready for end 2014 early 2015 only.

I got this info by two trusted sources. The new GX7 will not feature an organic sensor and we can expect first camera using the new tech by end 2014 only (and probably shipment in 2015). And yes, the organic sensor tech can be combined with the Color Splitter technology from Panasonic!

This all sounds exciting but there is still a long way to go. Be happy with the old classic Bayer sensors for now :)

Poll: Panasonic-Fuji vs Olympus-Sony. Is that good news?

The Micro Four Thirds system will dramatically change with the new Panasonic-Fuji vs Olympus Sony partnerships. It’s too early to see what exactly will change. Some of you believe this is bad news because Olympus-Sony and Panasonic-Fuji will collaborate more in their own systems (X and E-mount). Some of you believe that Fuji or Sony may be involved in the MFT system. I “believe” that at least in the short and mid term nothing will change in Panasonic and Olympus strategy. They will focus on the MFT system. Panasonic will use Fuji knowledge to create MFT cameras with organic sensor and Olympus will get the latest sensor tech from Sony.

Anyway, I ask you…

What is your feeling about the new partnerships?

(FT3) There will be no direct E-M5 replacement.

From what I heard til now the new OMD camera will NOT(!) replace the current E-M5. The new OMD will be placed in a different “league” than the current OMD. It will be released in early September. The E-M5 is still selling very well and will not be taken off production.

Drop me a message if you find some more bits about the new OMD camera!

P.S.: The E-M5 just got an up to $150 discount at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here), BHphoto (Click here). And in Europe a new set of ref. cameras has been listed at [shoplink 22691 ebay]Olympusmarket[/shoplink].
