Patent: New XZ compact camera may features an amazing 50mm f/1.0 lens!

Olympus is working on a ground breaking compact camera. A recent patent describes a 50mm (FF equivalent) f/1.0 lens deisgned for a 1:1.7 inch sensor used by the current current XZ-series (here on Amazon). This would become the worldwide fastest compact camera! Would love to get such a camera and you?

Update on the Panasonic-Leica partnership rumor…

The first Leica T picture appeared and as you know it’s said to be made in partnership with Panasonic (More info at MirrorlessRumors). The camera will cost $3,000 and have an APS-C sensor and T-mount. So it’s not going to compete against the MFT or any other current mirrorless system. What’s still not 100% sure is if the Leica T is made by Panasonic or if Panasonic just makes the electronics and then ships them to Germany so that Leica can assemble them there.

What I am sure yet about is that Panasonic will not join such a system. This is all about selling a red logo on a camera :)

First serious Panasonic GH4 contender, the Sony A7s 4K.

Well, this was a short time alone. The GH4 will get a companion very soon! Tomorrow Sony will announce the Full Frame A7s that can record 4K videos too! I don’t know the specs and how bad or good the quality will be. All I know is that it should be more expensive than the Panasonic GH4 and that it’s likely to record 4K at a much lower bitrate and a less good codec (the consumer XAVCs).  Also there is a slightly crop mode on the A/s so it’s not even a “pure” FF. I don’t think Panasonic has to worry about that new competition…

More info at MirrorlessRumors.com. MR will also host a live stream event if you are curious to see the new cam.

(FT5) Olympus 40-150mm PRO coming at Photokina. The other two new PRO lenses will not :(

.
I got the following info from two different sources: The new Olympus 40-150mm PRO zoom will certainly be released at Photokina in September. They also confirmed the 7-14mm f/2.8 and 300mm f/4.0 will not hit the stores this year. Olympus will certainly display them at Photokina but that’s it. You will have time til Spring 2015 to save the money for those two PRO lenses :)

One more thing: There will be surprises from Olympus at Photokina. But more about that soon on 43rumors…

What future Olympus PRO lens are you considering to buy?

(Fool Days Joke) Panasonic will restructure camera division. Micro Four Thirds project will be killed and focus now on Full Frame!

A manager discussion about the Panasonic MFT future.

This is the fool news:

Two trusted sources sent me an information about a deep change inside the Panasonic structure. One of them also sent me the audio on top confirming the bad news: Panasonic will completely stop the Micro Four Thirds cameras development and the GH4 will be the last MFT product ever made by Panasonic.

The decision has been taken because reforms and changes necessary due to huge losses in the imaging division. Digital cameras division staff will be significantly reduced with all engineers working on new consumer camcorders and m43 cameras abandoning their work and moving to mobile division. And the next surprise is that the main focus now will be on High End cameras with larger Full Frame sensors!

UPDATE: Sorry, you ave been fooled by April 1 fools day rumors. Hope you didn’t get a heart attack :)

(FT2) Olympus 9mm f/2.8 to come?

I try to avoid to post low ranked rumors on 43rumors. But this one is pretty interesting if true. An anonymous new source told me this:

We are making prototypes of an Olympus 9mm f2.8. Expect an aperture ring and metal construction. One of our three protos seems to have room for sealing.

Sounds like this will be a high quality (PRO?) lens. The current PRO lens roadmap doesn’t contain any prime lens yet, but if the rumor is correct tell us:

Would you consider to buy a 9mm f/2.8 PRO lens?

Full Frame OMD is the 43rumors readers most wanted camera for the year 2014!

I was very surprised to see the results of the 43rumors readers dream camera for the year 2014 (poll results here). Of the 7203 unique 43rumors voters 26% (1,858 Voters) are hoping to see a Full Frame OMD in 2014. This wishful camera beats all the rest (including the new GH4 and E-M10 cameras).

I am pretty sure such a camera COULD be realized now that Sony and Olympus have a close partnership. Imagine a camera with those features:

– 36 MP Sony sensor with no AA filter
– 4 Mio dot OLED EVF (Sony is rumored to use this in 2014 cameras)
– Olympus JPEG engine (which is better than the Sony)
– 5 axis on sensor stabilization (missing on Sony A7-A7r)
– E-mount
– freeze proof body (missing on Sony A7-A7r)
– dual SD card slot (missing on Sony A7-A7r)
– Olympus Zuiko primes coming along the camera
– OMD E-M1 alike button layout

What do you think of the Full Frame OMD?
