(FT4) New Olympus E-PL7 to be annnounced in a couple of weeks.

What I wrote weeks ago (Click here) seems to become true soon. A new PEN is coming it will be the E-PL7. And it will feature the same 16Mp sensor used by the OMD-10 camera with 81 AF points, 8 fps and 3″ vari-angle touch LCD screen.

Nothing revolutionary (as usual with PEN updates) and from what I heard more “advanced” innovations will be announced at Photokina. The current E-Pl5 sells for $499 only with free extras at BHphoto (Click here) and at Amazon (Click here).

(FT5) Also the Panasonic GX line is being “re-thinked”.

Last week I told you how Panasonic decided to not release any G and GF camera this year. And another trusted source just told me that also the GX line is under review. Panasonic is now thinking to “re-engeneer” the GX series to make it really standout. If they don’t come up with something smart and realizable they will not update the GX7 this year neither.

Question to our readers: What should Panasonic do to improve the GX series and make it a real challenger for the competition like the Fuji X-E2 and Sony A6000?

(FT5) There will be no new Panasonic G7 this year!

Image on top shows the current G6.

A couple of weeks ago I told you the GF7 will NOT be released this year. Well, here I have the next surprising news I got this from two sources: Panasonic decided to not release any G6 successor this year neither! They will discount the GH3 instead. The reason why there will be no G7 is due the poor sales of the G6.

Panasonic will focus on the GH, GM and GX line! You tell me if that’s a smart move…

Update about the Update of the E-P5 firmware update :)

Well, here is an update about the updated on the EP5 update :) Olympus delayed the firmware release to “fix some things”. But I have been told by a source that it’s definitely coming, and the hope is that it is “soon”. As you know focus peaking will be improved and 0 shock added. No E-M5 firmware yet :(

a little bit of everything…(with Ben’s Olympus workshop tour).

[NEW] Panasonic LUMIX GH4 “LIGHT”

Ben:I’m running a 2-day workshop for photographers to try out all the latest Olympus OM-D gear, in West Cork, Ireland. It runs over the weekend of the Baltimore Wooden Boat and Seafood festivals, May 24-25.
I’ll have OM-D E-M1s, E-M10s and E-M5s, and all the top Olympus primes and zooms, and Sigma m4/3 lenses. The program includes a boat trip, to shoot boats under sail and the coastal landscape and sea-life; a pass for the castle, whose roof terrace gives the best view across the harbour; a hosted visit to an exhibition of superb local photography; and plenty of time for photography and to enjoy the bustle of the festival. It promises to be a great weekend.
The fee is €215, and Olympus are giving everyone a €60 cash-back voucher for OM-D/PEN purchases.

Anonymous:http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=161jjb7&s=8#.U1X-6eaSzA4 hi, just saw this billboard in Berlin, Germany. It looks like there’s an Olympus OM-D photography playground exhibit here in Berlin until the end of May. Don’t know if that might be interesting for anyone else here in the area.

Annedo:Not a rumor, but I didn’t see a photo of the gm1 and leica 15mm + hood yet. Check the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsJw7CaisVI. At 3:02 there is an image of the combo.

(FT4) Schneider Kreuznach MFT lenses coming late 2014. To be displayed at Photokina.

I got some more confirmation that Schneider will (finally!) release the new MFT lenses this summer. The final production version lenses will be displayed at Photokina in September. The lens release have been delayed because of production capability issues. Schneider wanted to first produce enough of their highly requested Cine lenses. The three new MFT lenses are confirmed to have AF support. What I don’t know if in the meantime Schneider changes some of the originally unveiled lens specs which are 14mm f/2.0, 30mm f/1.4 and the Macro 60mm f/2.4.

Let’s see…

Current Schneider lenses (non MFT mount):

(FT5) More confirmations from sources that GF line is “on hold”.

Over the weekend I got more confirmations from sources saying the GF line up is “on hold” for this year. It’s unclear if there will be ever new GF model in future. This could really be the end of the GF line which started with the great Panasonic GF1 camera (still for sale on Amazon).

I guess Panasonic wants to focus on the more “Premium” GM line instead (which I do own and like a lot!). What do you think…

Do you think it would be a wise decision to quite the entire GF line?
