(FT2) Olympus has a PEN prototype with “vertical sensor”.

Image of the latest new PEN: The E-Pl7.

I just got that strange new rumor about the future PEN development:

The pen line isn’t discontinued, rather it’s being taken back to it’s roots. One of the mockups has the sensor in a portrait orientation like the original film pens, the space saved by the shutter traveling sideways rather than vertically allowing a viewfinder above it (still in the center line of camera, which is hard to do with the vertical running shutter, almost all other mirrorless have the EVF on the left hand edge or a hump because of it).

The source claims to know that this is a just a prototype and he believes the management will not approve that for final production because it’s too much “risk”. So I figured out that we may help the management to decide by asking our readers what they think about it:

Should Olympus really release such a PEN with vertical sensor?

(Photoshopped image) Silver 12-40mm PRO lens coming soon?

Silver_pro_12-40mm

Note: I stitched together that image from 4 small images i found on the website (therefore the imperfections!).

A Dutch Store (via DL) is listing a Silver Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO lens.  The image itself looks like it has been inverted in PS. They made did that to fill the gap. But I guess Olympus will soon announce such a Silver lens for real to match it with the new Silver E-M1 camera. Do you like the new color? :)

UPDATE: Some readers believes the lens is not coming because the image has been photoshopped. Guys, the point is the store is accepting preorders on what they clearly states being a new SILVER version fo the lens. They just PS an image to not leave the site with a blank image :)

P.S.: Silver E-M1 body at Amazon, Adorama, Bhphoto, GetOlympus. In Europe at Wex UK.

There are still some small or few major quirks that need to be fixed on the GH4. Among them we have the fatc that in HDMI 25p is still outputting 50i. But there is a good news coming via the Atomos itself:

It’s good to hear Panasonic is alreayd working on a new firmware update. Some extra wishes form our readers? :)

GH5 could have 4K 60fps and 8K recording?

Bildschirmfoto 2014-10-18 um 11.15.13

Mapcamera interviewed Mr.Tadokoro Yoshifumi from Panasonic. Asked about the features that could come in future cameras Mr.Yoshifumi said they are working on:

1) 4K 60fps recording
2) 8K recording

I guess the first feature will certainly make it into the GH5. But I am yet not sure if 8K will come that soon…

(FT4) Firmware update coming soon for other Olympus MFT cameras

olympus_capture

I keep receiving info from various anonymous sources saying that the E-P5, E-M5 and likely also other cameras will get a firmware update within the next few months. This is highly likely also because Olympus Capture Software yet doesn’t support any other camera than the E-M1. I hope the new firmware will allow tethering and some of the other new E-M1 features on all current MFT cameras!

(FT4) Panasonic AF100/101 successor coming at NAB 2015.

panasonicaf101

I guess most of you already forgot there is also a Micro Four Thirds camcorder line from Panasonic :) Well, according to two anonymous sources there will be a new AG-AF camcorder in 2015. One of them said it’s likely to come at NAB 2015 and replace the current AG-AF100/101. Pretty obvious that this new camera will have 4K recording. Other features are yet unknown…
