The E-M5II coming the first week of February has that amazing sensor shift feature to create 40Megapixel images on the fly. But for the rest there aren’t many major improvements. The sensor is exactly the same of the one used by the current E-m5 and I also have been told the camera has much improved video recording but doesn’t record 4K.

Small tidbits: The design of the E-M5II has changed a bit over the E-m5. Hope to get details soon.

Last year Panasonic and Fuji made a surprising (and big) buzz with their joint organic sensor development. But since then we didn’t hear anything new about it. Now Fujirumors got word from their sources that the Panasonic-Fuji developed organic sensor still has some issues like “too much battery drain & problems to find a proper processor” and “too much heat being generated“.

On paper the new Organic sensor has the following advantages over conventional sensors:
1) it has only 1/6 of the thickness of the current sensors
2) Increased Dynamic range of 88dB
3) 1,2 ISO stops more sensitive
4) range of incident angles of 60 degrees, efficiently utilizing light entering at an angle for faithful color reproduction with no color mixing. It also gives greater flexibility in lens designs, facilitating the reduction of overall camera size.

Now let’s see when this sensor is coming for real. Hopefully we don’t have to wait too much time :(

I have to correct an error from one of my trusted sources. He made a mistake and he said he is now almost certain the E-M5II uses the same E-M5 16 megapixel sensor without PDAF and not the E-M1 sensor with PDAF as he previously told me. He said sorry for the misunderstanding :(
The same source said he has been told that at the end the E-M5II is not really made to hold the bigger FT lenses. The E-M1 is more appropriate for that.

On the other hand more sources confirmed that the camera will get the sensor shift function to shoot up to 40 megapixel (in up to 8 shots). So that is now nearly impossible to be wrong :)

Personal note: Really sorry about the mistake. It happens 1-2 times per year that even FT5 rumor get wrong. I hope ot make it good with some great new FT5 rumors :)

I got these specs from an anonymous source about the next digital version of the [shoplink 35471 ebay]Olympus Trip 35 fixed lens camera (here on eBay)[/shoplink]. I have a hard time believing these are true but let’s take the chance to see if our readers would like to get a camera like that. And at the same time let’s hope reliable sources will spill out the real info (or confirm those specs if true). This is what I received:

Some of the features they are working on are:
16 mp 4/3 sensor (not a multi-aspect one)
F1.4 – F3.2
24-100
4k video
Built in ND filter
Tilting Screen
Built in EVF
Built in Flash with bounce capability
Manual S & A controls, EC Control, and a manual focus ring

This will not be pocketable but certainly compact.  Development has been taking place quietly for 1 year.

The Pixel shift tech from the Hasselblad H5D-200c. Something similar is coming from Olympus.

An anonymous source sent me a precious info that I luckily could confirm via one of my best trusted sources. So here is the big news:

The new Olympus camera coming during the first week of February will be called Olympus E-M5II (or E-M5 Mark II). And the big new feature of the camera is “sensor shift” shooting. The camera has a 16 Megapixel sensor that can shoot up to 40 Megapixel by shifting the sensor (in up to 8 frames of single shots).

The sources didn’t explain me in very detail how it works but my guess is that it works in a similar way of the Hasselblad H5D-200c. Hasselblad (Pdf file here) describes the tech in that way:

High precision piezo-electrical actuators control movements of the sensor in ½ and in one pixel increments. By combining six shots, offset by a combination of both ½ pixel increments and one pixel increments, the colors, Red, Green and Blue of each point are obtained with a double resolution in both the X and Y directions. The result is an astonishing 200Mpixel full color image with no artifacts, such as moiré.
The Bayer Mosaic filter pattern covers the pixels of the sensor. Moving the sensor in one pixel increments between shots, allows for the exact R, G, B values to be captured in every pixel. The multiple captures are then assembled to deliver the correct colors and ultimate definition of detail. Adding captures, each offset by a ½ pixel sensor movement, creates space for extending the sensor resolution from 50Mpix to 200Mpix. The outstanding definition of color and detail is maintained

Olympus will likely use their own 5 axis stabilization system to achieve that micro-sensor-shifting. Just like you create HDR images from multiple shots you can create a high-resolution image. The BIG question here is how good it works when you take a picture of non static subjects like people and so on.

Anyway, I hope to get more details about the tech works during the coming weeks. In the meantime I Thank the anonymous source for sending me this info and the trusted source for confirming that it’s correct! I do hope you will teach me mroe about that new special Olympus tech if you can :)

Two highly trusted sources told me the new E-M5 successor will indeed be announced the first week of February. Both of them already saw the camera and told me the camera looks “a bit different” from the current E-M5. They also told me the camera sensor delivers a new “higher resolution” image. Both sources know the exact specs but for obvious reasons cannot tell me them. But they wanted to let 43rumors readers know they can finally expect to see some new features :)

So let’s sum up the little (but highly FT5 rated) news we have ont he E-M5 successor:
– Sligthly different body style than the current E-M5
– New Image resolution (yes, it’s a bit strange I know. They said higher resolution image and not “sensor”!).
– announcement first week of February 2015

Now let’s hope the “real” specs will pop out soon :)

So what’s next with Panasonic?

1) A trusted source told me Panasonic is focusing on the GH an GM line evaluation. And while they have many different prototypes in their labs the “GF” and “G” line are “on hold”.

2) Another source also told me the new “Panasonic GM” line sales have not reached their targets. While the GH4 definitely exceeded all best expectations.
