Oh wait….this is the biggest lens ever used on a MFT camera!

A couple of days ago I posted the images of the GH2 with the massive Kodak Ektar lens (Click here to read the article). I thought this would be the biggest lens ever used by a MFT camera. But Esben Garn proved me wrong by sending these pictures of his GH2 with 100x lens broadcast lens! Massive combo :)

UPDATE: The lens costs over $200,000 at BHphoto (Click here)!!!

Olympus patent discloses new 3D camera and lens.

You still remember the huge 3D advertising campaigns? They are now almost gone. We even had a 12.5mm f/12 Micro Four Thirds 3D lens from Panasonic but after it nothing new camera for the MFT system. But at least on “patent-paper” research and development is continuing and Egami (translation here) spotted that new Olympus 3D lens and camera patent. The lens design of the 25mm f/2.8 and 24-41mm f/4.5-5.6 3D lens is made for Four Thirds sensor camera. But I really doubt we will see these lenses for real any time soon…don’t you think?

Sigma says they will not design lenses for MFT only.

Mr. Kazuto Yamaki from Sigma has been interviewed by ePrice Taiwan (google translation here). He said that there is no plan to develop and design lenses purely for the Micro Four Thirds system. They will keep designing them to cover the ASP-C sensor area and adapt the mount for both the NEX and MFT system. Smart move? Don’t know, it certainly keeps the costs of the lens very low.

These are the current Sigma MFT lenses:

Look at this: The GH2 using an original WW2 bomber lens!

During the WW2 the US military used the [shoplink 38927 ebay]Kodak Aero Ektar 178mm f/2.5[/shoplink] on bombers to photograph German military and industrial facilities. PolygonSandwich blog owner (Click here) made the impossible possible and uses this lens to take pictures with the Panasonic GH2! That is definitely the biggest lens ever used for a digital mirrorless camera. You cna see image samples on his blog. There is also a how to guide if you want to do something like this too.

The lens itself costs around $600 used on [shoplink 38927 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].

Next Olympus Glass patent…

Egami (google translation here) spotted the next Olympus Glass patent with built-in camera. The camera features a 1/2.3 inch sensor with 27mm equivalent lens. A while ago I spotted another patent where the Olympus glass actually acts as a sort of viewfinder of compact or mirrorless cameras (Source freepatentsonline):

There is a lot of talk about the Google Glass. And it seems that Olympus only has patented similar devices. But can a small company like Olympus battle against a giant like Google?

P.S.: The Gogole Glass device isn’t for sale yet but the plenty fo domains containgin “glass” or “google” are for sale on [shoplink 38909 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]. The most expensive one is [shoplink 38910 ebay]GlassEyeware.com[/shoplink] for $75.000!!!

Daniel:No rumor. Just an update on tests I’ve performed with the GH3 in predictive AF mode. Take a look to see a real world test that unfortunately the GH3 won’t be giving Nikon and Canon any trouble real soon in the action arena. http://www.naturalexposures.com/corkboard/panasonic-lumix-gh3-predictive-af-tests/

CIPA report on 2012 sales in Japan: Fewer Mirrorless cameras produced.

The detailed Cipa report has been published and there are some interesting news:

– Japanese companies produced 44% less cameras (50% less compact cameras and 24% less DSLR and Mirrorless).- The only segment with growth was the High End Camera and Lens market. For example +14,1% Full Frame Lenses have been produced.

This is clearly a sign that 1) the compact camera market is dying 2) The pro market is the only market still generating sales and money. For Panasonic and Olympus this means that they have to think on competing with Nikon and Canon in the high end market. But the MFT sensor size may be the major limitation. A larger Full Frame mirrorless system may be required to go into that direction!
