Panasonic announces the next 4K camcorder (but with PL mount).

After the GH4 Panasonic launched the next 4K camera. But this time it’s a proper camcorder and has PL mount instead of the GH4’s MFT mount. it also features a Super 35mm CMOS sensor and it’s interesting to read what they added on that camera compared to the GH4!

E-M10 shooting experience by Dpreview (and Olympus Interview).

Dpreview posted the .Olympus OM-D E-M10 shooting experience and studio test:

Overall it feels like an E-M1 Light – in both the literal and metaphorical sense. It’s a little less weight to carry, a little more space in my bag saved. Some features have been cut down (though not many, considering the price difference) but what’s left feels like an incredibly fun and responsive device, a little more than you’d expect from a casual go-everywhere camera, pushing on towards semi-pro territory.

And they also published an Interview with Hirofumi Imano of Olympus:
– but we’re actively working to optimize video performance in our lineup of both cameras and lenses.
– more of our customers in the US and Europe are vocal about wanting more advanced video functionality than in Japan and Asia, and our Asian customers are more vocal about ergonomics – things like how the dials feel. They’re very picky.

Interesting Imano says there are a couple of reasons why mirrorless isn’t selling very well in Europe and US:
– Perception that cameras from bigger brands are better
– Perception that bigger sensor size is better (for a long time mirrorless was MFT only and after APS-C sensor only)
– It would help if Canon and Nikon would make serious mirrorless cameras

The Leica Nocticron 42,5mm f/1.2 is now finally shipping and in Stock in European stores too! In Germany you can get it now at Technikdirekt (Click here).

Our reader Christoph got the lens in Germany and sent me the picture you see on top. He writes:

the Nocticron 1,2/42,5 is now shipping in germany – I picked up my copy at the local dealer. The make of the lens is absolute first rate – surely superior to former Panasonic/Leica lenses and close if not equal to (real) Leica M glas.
As a funny coincidence I today received also a lomography “new [shoplink 44897 ebay]Petzval Portrait Lens” 2,2/85[/shoplink] (in EF-mount for FF-EOS) which reflects the original optical formula of the very first portrait lens from 1840.
I’ m quiet keen on exploring the IQ and rendering of these so different portrait-lenses – one the surely most vintage and the other the probably most advanced optical design:)

GH4 preorders will start in late March and shipment in late April!

We have finally some more reliable news about the GH4 availability. Preorders in US store will be accepted from late March. And actual worldwide shipment is scheduled for late April. Also BHphoto (Click here) confirms the final shipment date info while Amazon (Click here) still shares no detail on that.

Sykes from Panasonic says what has to be done to make Mirrorless popular in US and Eu too.

Over at MirrorlessRumors I summed up the five possible reasons why Mirrorless struggles to become popular in North American and European countries. Amateur Photographer interviewed Mr. Sykes from Panasonic who explains the main problem was that companies were too much focused on trying to sell a certain volume instead of focusing on educate the customer about advantages of the new mirrorless cameras. That’s why Panasonic is “imploring photography journalists to conduct reviews of CSCs ‘against DSLRs’, rather than testing like with like.”

Last year mirrorlesss camera sales in UK dropped by 46,000 units. But there is also a good news reported by Sykes: “Compact system camera is now returning to a period of growth which is really pleasing“.

New Olympus 25mm lens reviews by Pixelmania and Steve Huff.

The Dutch friends from Pixelmania posted the second and larger part of their 25mm MFT lens comparison. And I couldn’t agree more with their conclusion:

All three deliver crisp images, have little distortion, and so on. Yes, the Voigtländer is slightly stronger, the cheaper Olympus, Panasonic sharper in the center, and so on and so forth. The big winner is in our opinion the MFT camera user can choose from three great 25mm lenses.

Steve Huff also posted the full Olympus lens review and writes:

I prefer the Olympus as I am not losing much at all over the Panasonic but I am gaining the small size, the nice price and the overall look that matches my other Olympus primes AS WELL as almost no CA issues. I could live with EITHER lens long-term.
