Panasonic USA sent out a newsletter to confirm a Panasonic S1-S1R preview at the CES show. Not sure if it means that full specs will be unveiled. One thing is sure, it doesn’t sound like there will be new MFT gear at CES.
We will live stream the Panasonic press event at 10am Las Vegas time of Jan 7.
As I reported today on L-rumors.com Panasonic has organized a major journalist and store manager gathering for the last week of January. Usually this happens when they announce a new product. I don’t think they will unveil some new MFT gear but rather announce full specs and pricing of the new S1-S1R Full Frame cameras.
The best we can hope is that they might announce the pricing of that f/1.7 superzoom MFT lens…

Better late than never they say…Dpreview just published their Photokina interview with Panasonic. There is a lot of talk about the S1-S1R cameras and the highlights have been summarized and posted on our sister site L-rumors.com.
Here is the merely MFT related part:
No APS-C:
Panasonic confirmed that they will never make APS-C L-mount cameras “We have our own Micro Four Thirds system and we think that [because of the greater difference in size between full-frame and M43] this is the best balance. We have no plans to develop APS-C products.”
8K only after 2020.
This is a bit surprising: ” After the Olympics, we will create a new generation of 8K video cameras, which are currently in development.” So unlike previous statements we will not get 8K cameras in time for the Olympics.
