New Olympus E-5 review at Photographyblog!

There is a new Olympus E-5 review at Photographyblog. It’s a real pleasure to read the first phrase of their final conclusions: “The Olympus E-5 is an exceptionally well-built and rugged digital SLR camera that is a joy to use and produces remarkably crisp images with great colours, and resolution that defies its pixel count.” The camera gets “Highly Recommended“. As you will have noticed almost all E-5 reviews do mention the same (many) strengths but also the same only major weakness….the high price.
There is one more czech review at digimanie.cz (google tranlsated). And if you want to read more E-5 news and reviews click here to read all our E-5 related posts on 43rumors.

(FT3) New Panasonic 7-14mm f/4 OIS lens?

Share

[shoplink 14822][/shoplink] On picture: The current [shoplink 14822]7-14mm[/shoplink] lens (without OIS!)

The Panasonic 7-14mm f/4 lens is higly regarded lens (See the very impressive tests at Photozone and SLRgear). But it has two “flaws”. The high price and the missing optical stabilization. In USA problem number one has been partially solved thanks to the latest price drops. The lens is now in Stock for $817.96 only at Amazon (Click here). As usual Europeans can’t enjoy such nice price drops :(
But let’s talk about the new rumor! According to one of our (very!) good sources Panasonic could release a new version of the current Panasonic 7-14mm lens with optical stabilization! My other sources couldn’t confirm the rumor, so please drop me a line (via mail or via contact form) if you heard anything about that lens. Let’s make that FT3 rumor a FT5 news ;)

I for myself would be very happy if Panasonic would add OIS (that would become an awesome lens on my [shoplink 16254]GH2[/shoplink]!) but I do also hope Panasonic can make a more affordable price!

P.S.: I am busy working on new rumors. Expect me to post more Panasonic and Olympus rumors soon!

Reminder: Rumors classification explained (FT= FourThirds):
FT1=1-20% chance the rumor is correct
FT2=21-40% chance the rumor is correct
FT3=41-60% chance the rumor is correct
FT4=61-80% chance the rumor is correct
FT5=81-99% chance the rumor is correct

[shoplink 16841]Panasonic AG-AF100[/shoplink] vs [shoplink 16254]Panasonic GH2[/shoplink] Video Comparison

Here is a comparison between all GH2 and GF1 color profiles. Shot RAW and .jpg images. All images are full size as they came out of the camera (Dpreview forum).

The dutch website tweakers.net tested the Olympus E-5.

Nikon D3100 vs Olympus E-PL1 image comparison at Dpreview.

Lumix DMC-LX5 vs. Samsung TL500 (EX1) Review at Pixiq.

The russian website Olympusourlife.ru tested the new Panasonic GF2. There are lots of image samples you can download. The reviewer admits that he likes the camera (and the new touchscreen controls) more than he expected.

The japanese website Ascii.jp reviewed the GF2: “To summarize GF2 usability, operability and easy to use touch system is surprisingly impressive.

P.S.: Bhphoto now says the GF2 will be in Stock by February (before it was January).

(FT5) UPDATED -> Panasonic will announce the new 25mm f/1.4 in February (and it will be the kit lens of a new MFT camera!)

Share

UPDATE: During the last 5 hours many sources sent me new rumors. I want to thank you all for your messages! Please understand that I will have first to doublecheck the rumors I received with other known sources. As you can imagine I often do receive false, or uncomplete (sometimes “crypted”) rumors and I don’t want to fool my readers. But one thing is certain: Olympus and Panasonic are ready to release a bunch of new cameras and lenses by very early 2011!

It’s Christams time and our sources have been so nice to send us the next very reliable rumor about Panasonic (Thanks!). According to them the new Panasonic 25mm f/1.4 lens will be announced in February/March! And there is one more surprise! It will be also be the kit lens of the next new Panasonic Micro Four Thirds camera!!! Sadly, I have no information about the camera (for now!).
The 25mm f/1.4 lens has been described by our sources as a very high quality lens (the image quality is very close to the actual [shoplink 16340]Panasonic/Leica 25mm Four Thirds lens[/shoplink]). But the lens will be bigger than the current [shoplink 14796]20mm f/1.7 pancake[/shoplink].

As you see on the roadmap above Panasonic is developing two new bright zoom and wide anlge lenses. But we are not certain yet when they will be announced. I was told by another source that Panasonic has already working preproduction samples. That’s why I expect those lenses to be announced soon!

If you know more about those new Panasonic lenses (or the new camera) feel free to contact me at 43rumors@gmail.com. You can also use the contact from on the right sidebar instead (it’s anonymous!).

Olympus E-5 (and Panasonic 8mm) review.

Share
[shoplink 17163][/shoplink]

Pocket Lint posted the new Olympus E-5 review with the intriguing title: “Has Olympus saved its best Four Thirds DSLR until last?” But their virdict is a little bit strange: “That said, as the [shoplink 17163]E-5[/shoplink] appears to be more an evolution of its existing E-3 owners might also want to consider the likes of an [shoplink 14832]E-PL1[/shoplink] if they want an Olympus feel, less bulk, and a camera that feels a little more in line with current thinking and future development. We do like the E-5, but in a tough present climate we’re just wondering who else will.” Can you really put the E-PL1 on the same level of the E-5??? Click here to read the full review at Pocket Lint.

Photographyblog tested the [shoplink 1482o]Panasonic 8mm fisheye[/shoplink]: “it is a very specialist lens that provides a unique view on the world. It delivers great image quality in a tiny package“. Build quality is excellent, focus is fast and silent, low CA, high resolution…so what’s the problem with the that lens? The high price :(
