OlympusCafè launched the Olympus Cafe TV, where users can see all Olympus/Photography related videos in one place on the site.

Panasonic will launch a new LCD protective film for the GF2 on March 12 (DC.watch.impress).

A 43rumors readers sent me following text: “G2 has the Extended Teleconversion feature of the GH2. I checked the manual and sure enough the G2 has the extra teleconversion feature that the GH2 has even for video. They called it EZ zoom for the G2 though. It is limited to a single 3.1x zoom for videos but it appears to be the near lossless version of the GH2. It crops the sensor instead of scaling.
I can’t believe no one has mentioned that the G2 had this before? Panasonic did not even advertise it.
Now that the G2 can be hacked it could be amazing with the 100 mb/sec MJPEG settings and the teleconversion feature. I think the G2 will increase in value in the near future.
G2 manual page 56 explains how its EZ zoom feature works for Video and Stills.

(FT2) Is that a real or fake Ricoh Micro Four Thirds module picture?

Share

An anonymous source (Thanks!) just sent me the following picture. That’s why I ask you (and my sources) if that picture is real or fake!
The Ricoh GXR system was announced 13 months ago and since there we have had many rumors about a possible Ricoh Micro Four Thirds module release.

UPDATE: The source is a user that wrote a comment on fotointern.ch. He says that this picture “was shown on a developer meeting last month“.

P.S.: The Ricoh GXR system is made by a main body and many separated moduls ([shoplink 16935]Click here to see them on eBay[/shoplink])

Would such a module make the GXR system more attractive for you?

Luminous Landscape and the GH2 crop mode. Deals: new low-price record on the GF1 and GH1

Share

GH2 ETC Mode from Michael Reichmann on Vimeo.

I don’t know if Panasonic is really conscious about the fact that the 1:1 video crop mode could become one of the most popular features of the new [shoplink 16254]Panasonic GH2[/shoplink]! Vitaly (the hacker), Philip Bloom, EosHD and many other famous blogger are simply amazed about it! Not only, also Luminous Landscape posted an article about the Panasonic GH2 Extra-Tele Video Mode: “Its presence is hidden on the user manual page about digital zooming, and Panasonic makes no mention of it in their product promotion. This should have been a banner feature for the GH2, something that those shooting video would see as a huge differentiating feature. Being able to shoot uninterpolated Extra Tele Conversion output from the sensor, and have what is effectively a 2.6X tele-extender with no light loss and no image degradation – all available at the press of a button – is quite a big deal to my mind. Did the engineers at Panasonic not tell Marketing about this feature? If not, why not? Or, did Marketing not understand what this was all about? We’ll likely never know the truth. But now you know, and if like me you find this to be an exceptionally useful capability – pass it on.

One more deal: US readers might not get the GH2 soon but at least you can enjoy one low-price record after another!
The Panasonic GF1 with 20mm lens is now in Stock for $579 ony at Amazon (Click here).
And the Panasonic GH1 price is back at $959 at Amazon (Click here)

P.S.:Panasonic has set the price for the GF2+14mm lens in Hong Kong: HK $5,990 (That’s $771 US dollars)

(UPDATED with Popphoto review) Olympus E-5 DxOmark results

Share

I am convinced that following DxOmark test results will start a heavy discussion on 43rumors! A week ago the DxOmark test came to the conclusion that the “old” [shoplink 14826]GH1[/shoplink] sensor is better than the new [shoplink 16254]GH2[/shoplink] sensor. Yesterday DxO posted the [shoplink 17163]E-5[/shoplink] sensor results: The E-5 sensor is almost equal in performance with the older E-3 sensor! DxO doesn’t take into account the imaging processor. Probably all improvements on new cameras are archived with the use of new processors and algorithms.

UPDATE: Popphoto posted a new E-5 review: “For DSLRs in this price bracket, if you’re looking for a powerful imaging tool with rugged construction and a lot of versatility, the Olympus E-5 may be your match.“.

What do you think about those results?

New Panasonic lenses available in Europe and Asia (but not in US)

Share

Do you remember the days when US shops were the first to have the stuff in Stock? These days are gone. We learned with the GH2 that European shops are getting the camera before the Americans. The same thing is happening with the new Panasonic lenses. Those shops are all having the lenses in Stock:

Panasonic 100-300mm:
Pixmania -> Germany, UK, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Netherland, Belgium, Poland
Amazon -> Germany, UK, France

Panasonic 14mm:
Pixmania -> Germany, UK, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Netherland, Belgium, Poland
Amazon -> Germany, UK, France

Panasonic 3D lens:
Pixmania -> Germany, UK, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Netherland, Belgium, Poland
Amazon -> Germany, UK, France

In US not a single store has them (Check Amazon US, Adorama, BHphoto).
For our US readers the only way to get them is through eBay (non US resellers):
[shoplink 17556 ebay]Panasonic 14mm f/2.5 eBay acutions[/shoplink] [shoplink 17618 ebay]Panasonic 100-300mm f/4.0-5.6 eBay acutions[/shoplink] [shoplink 17620 ebay]Panasonic 3D 12.5mm f/12 eBay acutions[/shoplink]

Looks like japanese companies are “preferring” the EURO over the DOLLAR currency.

(UPDATED) Reworked Sigma mirrorless camera. (Soon with Micro Four Thirds mount?)

Share

(Article updated)
A chinese photographer reworked the Sigma DP1/2, he removed the fixed lens to add a lens mount (The picture shows the Sigma with the [shoplink 18092 ebay]Leica Elmarit f/4 90mm[/shoplink]). According to the author:
1. He can put a M4/3 mount on it, then you can use mount adapter to convert to other mounts.
2. The author had tested drive an additional mechanical shutter to replace the original electronical one. He is ording parts from a Japanese factory.
3. The author vaguly mentioned possibility to drive AF lens, I don’t know if he/she had done any prototype or it is just doable.

Interesting!
