(FT2) Olympus cleaning E-3 stocks in Germany?

Share

Just received that mail:

For a couple of months now, I am closely following an Olympus- Authorized marketplace on Ebay.de, which recently increased significantly the offers of B-ware E3+12-60 & E3+14-54 kits.

http://stores.shop.ebay.de/OlympusMarket

Items are auctioned.
The E3+12-60 sells for about 1100 to 1200 EUR. The E3+14-54 – for less than 1000.
Last night I purchased one. Waiting for delivery.

The sales agent in Germany is LIMAL and here is what it says on their website:
“Olympus chose LIMAL to operate the German eBay-Shop OlympusMarket and handle all logistics and sales transaction”

The items are claimed to be “Manufacturer Checked and Approved” and looking at the feedback on the seller it seems to be confirmed.

For me, it is a clear sign that Olympus is cleaning out the stocks. Hopefully, making space for the successor of the E-3 monster.

Thought you should know.

UPDATED DEAL: Panasonic GF1+20mm in Stock for $900!

Share
The GF1+20mm lens

Finally in Stock with the normal price $900! Sold at amazon via two third party resellers (ABT and DBROTH).

Click here to check it out: Panasonic GF1 with 20mm f/1.7 Aspherical Lens

I was also told that the Panasonic 20mm lens will be in Stock in most US shops by the end of February!

P.S.: For europeans. There are no big deals on the Panasonic GF1. If you find one please send me an email. Anyway I noticed that Pixmania has the lowest price in most european countries.

UPDATE: I recieved following two mails:
1) “Hey I thought you might like this. I just preordered the 20mm lens through Panasonic direct which list the lens on back order. On the confirmation email they sent back they listed the estimated ship date of 3/10

2) “I ordered a GF1 kit w/ 20mm lens two days ago (Feb 10th). Delivery estimate was March 3 – 10. So 3-4 weeks. Just got this email:
“Hello from Amazon.com.
We are writing about the order you placed on February 10 2010 (Order# xxxx). The item(s) listed below will actually ship sooner than we originally expected:
“Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 12.1MP Micro Four-Thirds Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera with LUMIX G 20mm f/1.7 Aspherical Lens”
Previous estimated arrival date: March 03 2010 – March 04 2010
New estimated arrival date: February 18 2010″
So it looks like they are shipping out much faster than the “usually ships in 2-4 weeks” estimate they have on the page.

(FT4) Panasonic LC2 with H.264 movie recording and tiltable-LCD?

Share

In the past days I found some rumors talking about a possible Panasonic LC2 announcement. I didn’t post anything because until today I didn’t believe them! BUT I just found a very new patent which shows a LC1 similar camera with tilting-display (which the Panasonic DMC-LC1 has not) and Video recording!

The filing date is 10/19/2009. That is the first proove that this patent is not referred to the older Panasonic DMC-LC1.
Small update: This application is a continuation of International Patent Application No. PCT/JP2008/002299 filed on Aug. 25, 2008. The entire disclosure of International Patent Application No. PCT/JP2008/002299 is hereby incorporated herein by reference. This application claims priority to Japanese Patent Application No. 2007-222395.

Also the back design of the camera is very different:

The back shows”a release button 30, a mode switching dial 26, a cross key 27, a menu setting button 28, a set button 29, a viewfinder switching button 34, and a moving picture photography button 35.

Thea most interesting part of the very long text are:
“…The display unit 20 is a variable-angle monitor with which the angle can be freely changed with respect to the case 3a of the camera body 3, and the angle can be tilted upward by means of a hinge mechanism
“…further comprising a display unit configured to display a real-time image acquired by the imaging unit in the moving picture photography mode
“…two different methods can be used for focal point detection, namely, a phase difference detection method in which the above-mentioned focal point detection unit 5 is used, or a contrast detection method based on the image signal outputted from the imaging sensor
“…The compression method can be, for example, JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) in the case of a still picture. In the case of a moving picture, MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group) is used. Also, an H.264/AVC format in which a plurality of frames of image signals are compressed together can be used.

Sounds like Panasonic is really working on a the DMC-LC2! Let’s see if they will transform the drawings in a real camera :)

The “Old” Panasonic LC1 isn’t in Stock in most shops. But you can still find very few on Ebay US / Ebay UK / Ebay DE

UPDATED: Samsung blog blames MicroFourThirds…

Share

UPDATE: One hour after publishing our post Samsung removed the article.

This is our original post:

I just want to share with you an exerpt of one of the latest article on the official Samsung blog (Samsungimaging.com).

However, what I can tell you is, that the APS-C image sensor is bigger than micro four third sensors. The increased size of image sensors results in improved low light performances and greater dynamic range. Thus meaning, the image quality of the pictures taken with an APS-C are theoretically better than the ones taken with a Micro Four Third sensor” and “I mean, that’s like saying a usual VW Golf equals a Ferrari because it rolls on 4 tires.

So we are VW and they are Ferrari. I dont’t know if I should laugh or cry. Do they really need to write such kind of s….. to “convince” people to buy their products?
