Video on top: 45-175mm X lens Powerzoom smoothness test
The new [shoplink 25103]45-175mm X[/shoplink] lens will be in Stock this month (October) and so it’s time to read some reviews :)
The Clubsnap forum (Click here) tested the lens. The lens is as sharp as the 45-200mm lens, with very good color reproduction, accuracy and contrast. It has some vignetting wide open but no chromatic aberrations at all. The lens has been tested on the Olympus E-P3 so there is no auto correction like on Panasonic cameras. According to the reviewer the Power OIS is very effective (more useful than the built-in IS from Olympus!). You can read the full conclusions form the reviewer on page two of the thread.
Also ePrice (Click here) tested the same 45-175mm X lens. The review is written in Chinese and contains many image and video samples. From what I understood the reviewer liked the lens a lot! :)

This is not a Micro Four Thirds related news but I think it’s worth the rumor to be posted here.
Techradar (Click here) interviewed Yoshiyuki Inoue (Panasonic Senior Engineering Planner): “he said that although the LX3 had been very successful, its replacement the LX5 had not sold as well as Panasonic had hoped.” And to appeal enthusiast photographers “one aspect that is being given serious consideration for the camera that replaces the LX5 is increasing the size of the sensor, Panasonic’s Mr Uematsu even joked that it could have a 1in sensor like the new Nikon V1.”
The real question should be if there will be ever a sort of [shoplink 19929]Fuji X100[/shoplink] camera with Micro Four Thirds sensor. That would be something interesting!
Steve Huff (Click here) posted the full Olympus 45mm f/1.8 review: “This lens gets my highest recommendation if you are a Micro 4/3 owner. Anyone who knocks this lens (don’t think there will be any) has never tried it or had a defect“.
I couldn’t agree more with Steve. This is a must have lens. Click those links to check if the lens is in Stock or not: [shopcountry 23577].

Time for another Nokton versus Leica 25mm comparison. Peter Lueck (Click here) tested both lenses. As you know the Nokton is a manual autofocusing lens only and also 2cm longer, but is a lot faster (f/0.95 versus f/1.7) and a nice 20cm close focusing distance. The Leica is larger and cheaper and has autofocus. But what’s the difference in terms of image quality?
Peter Lueck shows you different scenes taken with both lenses. The Leica has a bit “colder” colors. But that is also the only real difference because sharpness is almost equal! Take a look for yourself!
One more thing about the Nokton price. I told you a couple of weeks ago that the price of the Nokton is falling and getting closer to the price of the Leica 25mm lens. The eBay deal Infoto offered new lenses for 599 Euro on [shoplink 25568 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]. The deal is gone now but they will soon have new Stocks of Notkon for sale at the same price. 599 Euro is what you pay for the new Leica at [shopcountry 23110] (If you are lucky to find them in Stock!).
P.S.: Check the Nokton availability on [shoplink 15659 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].
Travis made the video on top and sent me the following text (Thanks!): “Here is a video shot entirely with a hacked GH2(34 mb/sec no adverse affects settings) and the new m4/3s [shoplink 23110]25mm F1.4[/shoplink] and [shoplink 23577]45mm F1.8[/shoplink] lenses. Every clip was shot in 720p @ 60 FPS so that I could do slow motion for some of the clips. With streaming videos you can’t tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. In fact it is pretty hard to tell the difference between 1080p and 720p in the original files.
There is only one clip in the entire video that was color graded in post processing. See if you can pick it out. The rest of the clips were either in Vibrant mode with all auto settings or in shutter priority mode with the smooth profile(-2 sharpness and noise reduction).
I had the 14mm F2.5, 20mm F1.7, 25mm F1.4, 45mm F1.8, and 14-140mm lenses with me. However, the 25mm and 45mm lenses were the only ones that could give me the shallow depth of field I was looking for in this video. It is not ultra shallow like a full frame camera can do but I think it gives a nice affect.
The 25mm F1.4 is a must have lens for video. It is simply fantastic for nice sharp videos with rich color. The 45mm F1.8 is great too. However, neither of these lenses have image stabilization so you need to have a steady hand to shoot hand held videos like these.
I got the 25mm F1.4 from H and B digital last week. They had great customer service and their next day air shipping was a reasonable price. I got the 45mm F1.8 from Samys.com. They are an equally good company for customer service but their next day air shipping is more expensive since they are on the other side of the country from me. It was well worth the $1060 for these lenses though. They really legitimize the m4/3s format because they now have almost a complete set of lenses across all of the necessary focal lengths.”
How the GH2 is still top dog for video quality (EosHD).
