(FT5) Panasonic GH3 with new 16 Megapixel “Wide Dynamic Range” sensor. 12.800 ISO and 72mbit/s in video.

Share

According to two of our best sources the new Panasonic GH3 has a new 16 megapixel sensor. It is not the same of the [shoplink 32274]Panasonic G5[/shoplink]! Panasonic defined this as a “Wide Dynamic Range” sensor. As we know from past we have to see soem real test before to know if that is just a “marketing slogan” or a real major improvement. One source said firmware is not final but the dynamic range increase looks like to be more in the shadows than in the highlights. ISO goes up to 12.800.

Both sources said this is the definitely best hybrid stills&video camera they have ever seen. And they were so kind to give me the detailed bitrate: The GH3 can do “All-I 72 Mbps“.

POLL: What the PRO OMD camera should absolutely have to make you happy!

Share

A couple of weeks ago I posted the first rumor about a possible new PRO OMD camera that could be announced this winter (not at Photokina!). Many 43rumors readers suggested some of the features such a cameras has to have in order to be defined as a real PRO m43 camera. I summed your list and here is the Poll:

Pick up a maximum of seven most important features the next PRO OMD should absolutely have

New Olympus 75mm review by Admiringlight (and “non” in Stock status)

Share

While we are still waiting to get our hands on the preordered Olympus 75mm lens Admiringlight posted the final Olympus 75mm review: “I have to say this lens is worth every penny of the asking price.  The absolutely brilliant sharpness, rich color and creamy bokeh make put it among the finest optics I’ve ever had the pleasure to use.“.
And Itmedia (translation here) also tested the Olympus lens. Some image samples at Pen and Tell.

And now le’ts talk about the mostly “non-in Stock” status of the lens. The lens is in Stock in Asia only at Digitalrev and [shoplink 31284 ebay]eBay[/shoplink] for example. In US BHphoto shipped the very early preorders but none is in Stock now. In UK it’s in Stock via [shoplink 33039 ebay]Simplyelectronics[/shoplink] which I suspect imports everything from Hong Kong directly ([shoplink 33039 ebay]although they say it’s shipping from UK[/shoplink]).

US deal: GX1 with 14-4mm lens for $399! Same price for E-PM1 with lens.

Share

I guess you will agree with me when I say that a Panasonic GX1 with kit lens for $399 is really a damn good deal (Click here to grab it). The same deal is also available on Samys (Click here). That’s $100 less the Body only price! Pair it with the $164 cheap [shoplink 33054 ebay]Panasonic 14mm pancake[/shoplink] and you have a quite nice package.

UDPATE: And for $399 you can also buy the Olympus E-PM1 with 14-42mm collapsible kit lens at Amazon (Click here).

EosHD: Gh3 with 70-80Mbit bitrate?

Share

Andrew from EosHD sent me the link to his latest post where he writes: “The GH3 is going to be more professional this time around according to my source in Asia. It is moving up the line and will be more expensive as a result. The camera has a high bitrate mode of around 70-80Mbit. Panasonic have decided to put the features we need in the box rather than risk unreliability with a third party hack. This is a very good move.

It’s certain the GH3 will be a super videocamera but I have no info yet about the exact video specs. Would be surprised to see Panasonic moving away from the AVCHD 2.0 standard. On the other side Olympus decided to not use that file format on the [shoplink 29074]Olympus E-M5[/shoplink] because of his complexity. Hmm, filmmakers out there…what do you want?
