I don’t know how many of you noticed it but Olympus is the only photo company that has not announced any new camera at CES. More important to know is that CES was usually the right event for the launch of consumer compact cameras. This is just one more sign that Olympus is dissociating from that kind of market (with the exception of ultra zooms or high-end compacts).
That said what really matters for us 43rumors readers is to know that right before the CP+ show in Yokohama (Start February 13) Olympus will announce the E-M10, the new 25mm f/1.8 and a new compact zoom lens :)

P.S.: Still, at CES Panasonic announced the Lumix ZS35K (preorder and specs here at Amazon) and Lumix SZ8K (preorder and specs here at Amazon) compact cameras.
On top you can see the E-7 prototype close to the E-M1.
In an Interview at Amateur Photographer Olympus Manager Terada said:
“Nobody knows 10 years away… once we can get a very nice share [in mirrorless] we may expand the business to DSLR again, but at this moment we are just concentrating on mirrorless and we have no plan to go into DSLR.“
Terada also believes that:
“Olympus has the potential to take a large chunk of the market, in two ways: by winning over existing DSLR users; and by pulling in complete newcomers to system cameras.”
Hmmm, don’t think this will ever happen…Olympus going back to DSLR. Niet.

Lenstip (Click here) is the first site posting a full Panasonic Leica Nocticron 42,5mm f/1.2 lens test. These are some of their key findings:
– The tested stabilization efficiency is about 3.5 EV (which is a good result says Lenstip).
– The resolution at medium aperture is almost as high as the best lens of the class, the Nokton 25mm f/0.95 (80 lines per mm vs 82 lines per mm)
– At f/1.2 aperture the center performance is said to be “brilliant” and on par with the Voigtlander 0.95/25 and the Olympus 1.8/75.
– At f/1.2 the corner performance is “positive”
– Chromatic Aberration is present at wide apertures while the lateral chromatic aberration and spherical aberration are well corrected.
– Negligible distortion
– The lens corrects the coma in a splendid way. The astigmatism is not a problem either.
– Bokeh is pleasing and at f/2.5 the bokeh effect is very similar
– at f/1.2 aperture the lens shows a very strong vignetting (-2.23 EV)
– it has a good resistance against ghosting and flares.
– Autofocus is fast and very accurate
Overall the only big negative is the high vignetting at f/1.2 aperture. That said I would have loved to see a comparison between the Nocticron and the 42,5mm Voigtlander to see who delivers the best image at f/1.2 aperture! Maybe some reviewer is reading this and will make a comparison for us :)
