(FT5) Again: MFT Schneider lenses coming in 2014.

Share

A reader asked me what happened to the Schneider MFT lens development. I asked again my Schneider source and he confirmed that Schneider plans to release those lenses in 2014 only. The reason is the limited lens production capability of Schneider. They first want to produce enough of their special video lenses before to release the new Micro Four Thirds lenses. There is a chance that some lens specs will change in the meantime. The original plan was to introduce the 14mm f/2.0 the 30mm f/1.4 and the Macro 60mm f/2.4. All lenses will come with full electronic AF and Aperture support. Internal focusing, aluminum weather proof case. I do hope they will get rid of the macro (we already have the Olympus version).

A Xenon 16mm f/1.2 would be a nice replacement for the macro  :)

Sigma announces new Mount Conversion Service that enables lens use across camera systems

Share

Guess what the big Sigma teaser was for? A Mount Conversion Service :(

In short Sigma announced an (expensive!) service to converts a very limited range of Sigma lenses in other mounts. SigmaPhoto writes:

Global Vision lens owners can request the Mount Conversion Service to convert their current Sport, Contemporary or Art DSLR lenses to their choice of a Sigma, Sony, Pentax, Nikon or Canon mount. Global Vision category lenses for mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras (MILCs) can be updated to either a micro four thirds (MFT) or Sony E- mount.

This wasn’t worth a teaser :(

P.S.: I would really like to see a Foveon sensor inside an MFT camera. Me thinks this is the way to go! :)

(FT5) New High End OMD is also the E-5 successor (hybrid MFT and FT mount).

Share

It’s almost a year now that we speculate about a new Olympus hybrid mount camera. And finally I got multiple feedbacks from sources saying that indeed Olympus will launch a High End OMD camera in September that will have 100% full support for both MFT and FT lenses. And surprise, the High End OMD also replaces the current [shoplink 17163]Olympus E-5 FT camera[/shoplink]! The High End OMD is placed a step above the current [shoplink 29074]Olympus E-M5[/shoplink]. The High End OMD doesn’t replace the E-m5 and the E-m5 will get replaced in 2014.

So what about the mount? I am still not 100% sure on this but it seems that the new High End OMD has some sort of hybrid MFT and FT mount. How this should work I don’t know yet. Hope more sources can read this post and answer that question soon. Thanks!

E-PL6 for sale in Europe. GX1 body almost for free in Germany!

Share

I didn’t know that Olympus would sell the E-PL6 in Europe too! You can find it in Stock right now at Fotomundus (Germany) and Topshot (Finland). The E-Pl6 only has some minor improvements like ISO 100 and Level Gauge. Don’t know yet if it will be sold in North America too.

And an absolute great European deal is the GX1 with X zoom for 399 Euro at Wexcameras Germany. Basically you get the camera almost for free!
