Nabil Fathi tweeted that Olympus will add 4K to the E-M1. Important to note is that he tweeted this on August 13. Days before I posted the rumor I got from a new and yet non-trusted source.

The real interesting thing is that Olympus official twitter account favorited his tweet! It doesn’t mean anything yet, it’s certainly not a prove this is coming for real but it’s an interesting coincidence. For now let’s stick to what one of my trusted sources said yet. E-M1 firmware is indeed coming but he said there is no 4K video recording feature coming.

I repeat it again, for now 43rumors doesn’t believe this 4k firmware will happen! I just wanted to point out the strange rumors I got and that as you see not only I am getting!

A highly trusted source told me Panasonic will release a new GH4 firmware update soon. Likely along the new GM2 (4K camera) release. I have no detailed info about the new freatures and fixes but I have been told the firmware will add RAW video recording (on external recorders).

In the meantime other sources confirmed there will be a new E-M1 firmware update too. it will be big but like I told you the past days it’s highly unlikely it will add 4K video recording.

Well…it’s real! This is the first image of the new Silver Olympus E-M1 that is likely going to be introduced on August 30 (along the new Olympus E-Pl7). It will be “delivered” with the new E-M1 firmware update which is rumored to add plenty of new features.

UPDATE: I reapeat it hard and loud. The info comes via new source. For now trusted sources said they didn’t hear  anything about any E-M1 4K firmware update.

Well, sometimes it happens that I get conflicting reports. While a trusted source said he didn’t hear about a possible 4K upgrade of the E-M1 the new source I am in touch with claims the exact opposite. The reason why I still consider the new source worth of my consideration is that I know with 100% certainty that he comes from the high end video world. So he is actually not anonymous to me :)

It’s not my intention to confuse you but this is a rumor site after all and what fun would it be without doubts, hopes and tension? After my post from yesterday that new source said to have more info to share. He said the firmware update for the E-M1 will be released next week and have those features:

“– Unlocked 4K recording (over 100mb/s in simple HD)
– Different frame recording mode including 24p/25p/50p/60p
– High speed recording frame FHD/HD (120p/240p) – Slow motion
– Motion Film
– Kinda of Cinema Grading Features (similar to Slog A7s and the one on the GH4)
– Like on the 4K recording (higher bitrate)

About the photo part. I don’t know exactly the name of this feature, but this feature will let you take picture without pressing any button on the camera when the sensor detect a movement, the camera will take many picture of it. Also another function about doubling a picture (picture over another picture)”

Like I said, take it with a grain of salt. I hope other sources can help me out on that matter. And if not well…in one week we will know the truth for sure :)
