(FT4) Image of the 4K video setting on the E-M1!

Share

This is certainly going to be one of the weirdest rumors I have ever worked on. But here is a screenshot taken from the Olympus E-M1 menu showing the 4K video recording settings. Like I told you before many testers of the soon to be launched 2.0 firmware version have not seen that 4K feature. So the possibilities are two:

1) Olympus hiding the feature for most of them or
2) Olympus is testing that feature on a more advanced firmware to be released some time after the 2.0 version.

We will know on September 15 what’s really going on! Fingers crossed for 4k!

(FT3) Also two new Olympus Cine lens to come? And more 4K details…

Share

The same source who gave me the first E-M1 4K firmware upgrade rumor also shared another rumor: Olympus is working on two new Cine Prime lens. But he isn’t sure these will be shown at Photokina.

And he shared also some more 4K details:

The OMD E-M1 record in 24-25-30p 4K with IBIS without any problem for 29min limit.  The good news is that, the 4K firmware from the beta test was well improved and it would be officially announced during the Photokina and released.

UPDATE: I still have sources saying they don’t know about 4K on the 2.0 firmware they tested or saw. So either this is a super secret Olympus addition or Olympus will decide to not add the 4K feature on the new firmware. This is one of the weirdest rumors I have ever worked on. I am glad this will be over in a few days :)

(FT4) Surprise: 4k is really coming with the E-M1 firmware update!

Share

Well guys, I just got my first “proof” the E-M1 will indeed get 4K video recording via firmware upgrade! I got an image I cannot share showing the video settings of the E-M1 with the new firmware. I can tell it really doesn’t look like a fake image or so!

It shows “mov 3840×2160” in the settings. And framerates were 25 + 30 + 50 + 60 + 120 + 240 in movie menu below Mode function.

The story is really strange. Seems like only a small group of testers got the 4K feature in their beta firmware while other “photo” testers didn’t have this. That could explain the contradicting rumors I got. I have been told the firmware is coming on Sept 14 or Sept 15. For the first time I really believe that 4K is coming to the E-M1…I saw it :) That’s going to be a very bold move by Olympus. Adding 4K to a  camera via fw update is something none has ever done before. Chapeau!
