(FT5) Olympus has a special 100th anniversary OM-D in the works!!!

Share

Image on top shows the Titanium E-M5II (here on Amazon).

The past three days I got messages from two different sources saying that Olympus has a special 100th anniversary OM-D in the works!

I got no specs or other additional info yet. It’s unclear if this special version will be only a special OM-D color or kit version or some kind of new camera with new specs. I really hope it’s the latter!

Did Casey Neistat just leak the GH5s?

Share

Pay attention as this is a long story. And I hope to not piss off Casey with this…as I am a big fan of you! :)

Step One: The twitter image above shows Casey today in NYC with what could be easily assumed to be the normal GH5.

Step two: A reader named Jeremie sent me the image above with the following text:

Hi ! I’ve just spotted a strange picture of an potentially GH5s in the wild. I’ve noticed it on twitter. It’s a photo from casey Neistat, he reupload and photoshopped the picture but i’ve the original;
see below :)

Step three: Of course I was 99,9999% sure Casey did not Photoshop the image. It’s usually more likely that readers do cheat (no offense Jeremie!). Jeremies image shows a red button that the GH5 doesn’t have.

Step four: But curiosity had the better and I said to myself…maybe I can find somewhere a picture with the red button that is still online. So I went over to the helicopter company page on instagram and I found the image you can see above and here is the very strange thing. Indeed Casey’s camera has a red button! Just see the crop from this image:

Maybe this is just a strange reflection on the button or whatever. Maybe I had too many beers tonight. But just in case…Casey don’t hate me if I am right :)

(FT5) First image of the GH5s shows it has same GH5 body with G9 alike red ring on the drive wheel

Share

The image you see here on top shows the new GH5s (or whatever the name will be) that will be announced on December 15. UPDATE:  December 15 press event for journalists but announcement may be in early January?
Image via Neumannsfilm!

This image only tells us one simple thing: The GH5s on the back looks EXACTLY the same as the GH5 body with one exception: It has the “red ring” on the drive wheel like the one used by the new Panasonic G9 (see image here on Amazon).

We know this about the GH5s:
– This is a low light version of the GH5. It probably has a new low resolution sensor.
– This will be a more advanced version of the GH5 with improved video quality, stunning low light performance
– higher price tag than the GH5.
– Same GH5 body
– UPDATE:  December 15 press event for journalists but announcement may be in early January?

We have no specs yet but we can safely assume it will have a new low resolution sensor. I hope sources can soon drop me some specs anonymously via contact form :)

Join the GH5 and GH5s facebook group to discuss the new camera.

Sensor speculation:

Just recently Sony announced that 10,7 Megapixel Four Thirds sensor which records 4K at 120 frame/s (in ADC 10-bit output mode). I am not sure this is the sensor used by the GH5s. Also because Sony says it’s made for surveillance and industry use. Full PDF file here: sony-semicon.co.jp/products_en/IS/sensor0/img/product/cmos/IMX294CJK_Flyer.pdf
