Panasonic GF5 fading out from US stores. Successor to be announced soon.

[shoplink 36107 ebay]

[/shoplink] The Panasonic GF5 X is now no more available at Amazon (Click here) and Adorama (Click here). There are still a few left in Stock with the 14-42mm (non X) lens. I have no final specs of the GF5 successor but I have been told it is a minor upgrade and nothing super exiting. The new successor won’t be smaller than the current GF5.  It will be interesting to see if Panasonic will also launch a fixed lens RX100 competitor later this year. That camera will be the smallest camera with FT sensor ever made to date.

That said the current GF5 can be found for a very good price ($449) with X lens and new on eBay US in [shoplink 36107 ebay]Black (Click here)[/shoplink] and [shoplink 36108 ebay]White (Click here)[/shoplink].To get notified on further eBay US price drop login and save this search on Slidoo (Click here). (FT1) Olympus to make lenses for the Sony new NEX-FF system? (has to be a joke!)

Picture of the Sony-Olympus collaboration presentation.

Oh guys! I cannot make a pass a whole year without to post an FT1 ranked rumor! Or not? So let me post one I got and that I am sure is 99% not real. Just for fun ok? (ranking explained at the bottom of this post)

An anonymous source claimed to know that Sony will launch a NEX-FF by end of 2013. And Olympus have been asked by Sony to develop and manufacture lenses for the new system. While it’s certain that Olympus and Sony will collaborate on the compact camera front I doubt Olympus has the necessary resources to make FF lens for Sony. But hey, there may be a day when Olympus will make FF lens (and cameras). But I don’t think the day is close…

P.S: If for some incredible fortunate reason the rumor would be correct than I would be the first to eventually buy a Full Frame Olympus OM camera!

Olympus patent discloses a new XZ-3 lens.

The CES show is over and neither Panasonic nor Olympus unveiled any new interesting MFT or compact camera (as expected).  Egami spotted an Olympus patent describing the lens characteristics of a possible future XZ-3 camera.  The lens should be a 28-112mm f/1.4-1.8. And there is no sign of a sensor size increase yet. Recently Panasonic said it was interested in thinking on a premium compactc amera with fixed lens having a larger MFT sensor. Let’s see if such a camera will really come in 2013!

Personal note: Again, I am currently very busy in my private life (baby coming very soon) and I may not answer your mails now. I will use my spare time to work on MFT rumors as new stuff is going to be announced for February! Thanks for your understanding!
