Mr. Terada interview (no more FT lenses, E-M5 successor coming, focus on still quality).

Our friends over at Bestmirrorlesscamerasreviews interviewed MR Terada, Mr Guthmann and Mr Fandrey from Olympus. These are just some of the key points:

– Asked why the E-M1 lags behind the GH3 when it comes to video quality Mr Terada says: “We are concentrating on priority matters, specifically establishing nice still image quality. This is our priority as a camera manufacturer and our reputation on the market is for still.
– He confirms again: “no plan to make new FT lenses
– “The E-M1 is not the successor to the E-M5.” And there will be deifnitely an E-M5 successor.
– Regarding the FF vs APS-C vs FT sensor size matter he says: “I also feel that the balance of portability and IQ is what puts MFT above APS-C. The image quality is almost the same but the portability is totally different. Then, if you compare the lens size – DSLR, APS-C, and mirrorless APS-C – their lenses are much bigger than ours. I don’t think everyone will go to FF; only those who really need it will. But many journalists say that the E-M1 covers a lot. Somebody said 99% can be covered.

Thanks BMCR for sharing the interview content!

(UPDATED) Interview with Blackmagic manager.

The German site Slashcam.de (Thanks guys!) interviewed Mr. Stuart Ashton from Blackmagic Team. Watch from minute 1.30 for the Pocket camera news. He says the “Black Dots” issue has been fixed with the new firmware update. And the “Blooming” issue affects only a small stock of cameras. This will be fixed by Blackmagic with a recalibration (you have to send them the camera).

The Pocket Cinema Camera shipments are slow and according to BHphoto (Click here) you will have to wait 2-4 months(!) if you order the camera now.

UPDATE: Blackmagic contacted us to say that “the rumor about a 4K camera with an active MFT mount is inaccurate“. It’s a 2,5K camera with active mount.

New GX7 review:
Digitalversus (Click here) posted the full GX7 review and writes:

Thanks to the sensor’s two-axis stabilisation system, its built-in viewfinder, and handling similar to a little rangefinder, it’s the ideal candidate for users looking to shoot with lenses other than those from Panasonic’s Lumix range.
