Change.org petition with request for future OM-1 series Firmware updates
Nicola Det has launched this petition on Change.org. His requests:
As OM System OM1 / OM1-2 photographers, we feel the camera can and deserves more!
Especially since some nice new features made their way to the OM3 and OM5-2 bodies. Some of them are really easy to implement in software, like the “CP” button. Moreover, the OM3 features very similar electronics to the top OM1(-2). So software optimization should easily be done for one or the other.
Moreover, those cameras are built to last, so they should also last in software.
@OM System: update the OM1(-2) firmware to make your customers happy and more loyal.
Possible improvements:
- EASY -> CP feature on any button:
- As with the OM3 and OM5-2: the ability to quickly/simply select/switch between the various ‘Computing Photography’ features
- EASY -> Take a photo in “zoom in” live-view.
- Currently it’s possible to zoom inside the live view, but as soon as the shutter button is touched, the zoom is disabled. This is not optimal when you have to concentrate on something small to take the picture. Example: a speaker.
- EASY: Bring the in-camera photo editing and picture profile of the OM3 to the OM1 and OM1-2.
- EASY: Name custom settings like the OM-3
- OM1: High Res mode fix.
- OM1: Improve human and other subject tracking to get closer to the OM-1ii (as far as technically possible)
- MEDIUM -> S-AF fix. In medium light the Single-Shot AF is not optimal.
- To my experience it is better on the EM1-3.
- Typically in such lighting (ISO 640. 1/100 F4), the OM1-2 fails in Single-Shot AF but it it flawless using C-AF. I guess this where the camera is not sure if it should use contrast or phase AF.
- Multiple Auto-ISO settings.
- Currently there is only one Auto-ISO settings.
- Make 3 Auto ISO set which can be sat up in the settings menu
- And can be selected as usual using the ISO button
- ISO1: 200-800, min 1/2s
- ISO2: 200-6400, min 1/80
- ISO3: 200-25600, min 1/500
- Better flash lightening algorithm.
- The “Balanced Flash Metering” does not do anything, but the menu entry is there.
- Try to keep the lighting as it is, (maybe just -1 or 2 EV) and flash.
- Defaulting to ISO 200 / 400 is mostly a bad choice in the dark.
- AF update. The AF can more!
- Optimise the AF as far as possible.
- Better Object detection / tracking.
- Better low light AF.
