New E-M5, E-PL5 GH3, 60mm macro and 12-35mm X lens (p-)reviews.

The super fats spedd of the E-M5 compared to the Fuji X PRO 1 (found via Fujirumors)

I have to catch up with some recent Micro Four Thirds camera and lens review. This time we have quite a lot of popular blogger and website tests. Hope you have enough time to read them all today:

Robin Wong posted the second part of the E-PL5 review: “E-PL5 is what an Olympus PEN has always been famous for: light-weight, small in size, full with features, such as the built in Image Stabilization, full manual controls and customization, and now, add the highly regarded image quality of OM-D to the E-PL

Craig Litten posted a full E-M5 review. Some E-M5 image samples from the deep water at Digitaldiver. A full review has also been posted by Gianni Galassi: “All in all, the Olympus OM-D E-M5 is a camera that one can be tempted to build a system around. Which is exactly what I have been doing this summer after selling my whole Leica equipment. No regrets here.

Matti Sulanto posted a new 60mm test on his blog and writes: “I liked it so much that I bought one after trying it.” Doens’t happen that often that a reviewer buys the tested stuff! Some image samples have been posted by the dutch guys from Focusmedia. A full Japanese review of the lens has been posted by DC.watch (funny comlicated google translation here).

ePhotozine posted the 35-100mm X lens review: “It is a fine lens that is priced reasonably, especially when compared to lenses covering the same angles of view for 35mm format, with the added bonus of being much more compact, and lightweight.

The french friends from Hybridcams (Translation here) posted a first GH3 hands-on article. Also the other french friends from Openpn (Translation here) posted a GH3 and a 35-100mm hands-on.

So that’s all for today! It’s always great to see how many positive reviews we can read about the recent MFT cameras and lenses. The system popularity is really growing day by day!

Panasonic 35-100mm X lens hands-on at Dpreview.

Dpreview (Click here) posted the 35-100mm X lens hands-on along some image samples. They write: “our first impressions of the Lumix G X Vario 35-100mm F2.8 OIS are that it’s an excellent little lens – well made, fast-focusing, and optically impressive. A familiar question mark hangs over Panasonic’s pricing, though; the $1500 / £1000 tag is far from insignificant.

Indeed the high price may be the the only real big downside of this lens. Anyway, we can still hope that Panasonic will make some nice discount like they are doing now on the 12-35mm X sister lens (-$200 here at Amazon). That would make it much easier to sell this lens!

First two Olympus 17mm f/1.8 image samples…

One of the nicest new announcement at photokina was that Olympus 17mm f/1.8 lens. Sadly Olympus didn’t release any official image sample to see how good (or bad) the image quality is. But a Dpreview forum member (Click here) managed to take two shots with the prototype version that was on show at photokina. Those pics definitely can’t unveil what the quality of the lens will be. For now also price and availability are unknown. Hope it doens’t take that long to see it in store! This is one of the mft lenses I would like to own.

New Olympus E-PL5 and 60mm macro and SLRmagic reviews (AdmiringLight, Robin Wong)

EosHD (Click here) tested the SLR Magic 35mm T0.95 and T1.4 prototype lenses on the GH2.

Further we have two new reviews from well know (and highly rated) Olympus reviewers:
Admiringlight (Click here) posted a new “Macro Battle” article between the Olympus 60mm f/2.8 and the Leica 45mm f/2.8: “Overall, it’s looking like the Olympus 60mm may have a slight edge in resolution over the also excellent Panasonic Leica
Robin Wong (Click here) tested the “mini-Em5”, the new E-PL5. He shot a wedding and writes: “Honestly, I have very, very little complains, and generally very satisfied with what the camera could do. When I was shooting, I did not even wish for a moment to switch back to my old DSLR E-5. Yes, I have my minor complains of no Viewfinder and wanting a better grip, but what the E-PL5 could do, trumps all the complains I had.

GH3 image samples, E-PL5 review and Olympus 60mm tests.

Good Morning (at least here in Europe)! Let’s start the new day with a roundup of news about the recently announced Panasonic/Olympus stuff. On top you can watch a commercial uploaded by Panasonic.

Olympus E-PL5:
Ming Thein posted the first Olympus E-PL3 review: “Ultimately, success at this end of the market will depend heavily on the camera’s price point. The rich feature set and overall refinement in operation make me curious to see what will succeed the E-P3; now if only they’d make one with a built-in EVF like the NEX-6…
An E-PL5 hands-on has been posted on DC.watch (Tranlsation here).

Olympus 60mm macro:
Quick Look at the Olympus 60mm f/2.8 Macro at Lensrentals. They compared it with the 45mm Panasonic macro and said that: “the resolution of the two lenses is identical.

One more thing: A new article about the next generation viewfinder likely going to be used by Olympus in next generation cameras at ePhotozine.
