Side by side: Original vs new OM-1 cameras

The Japanese blog Kitamura (google translation here) reviewed the OM-1. WHat I like it is that they shared the image above showing the older OM-1 and the new OM-1 :)

Here more comparisons with the E-M1III and E-M1X:

Regarding the review itself this is their conclusion:

This is a subjective report based on the author’s actual use of the OM-1 for professional photography over a long period of four months. That should make it clearer what has been improved from the previous model and what has not changed. I have already used the OM-1 as my main camera for professional use, and I feel that the high-sensitivity characteristics, which have been a weak point of Micro Four Thirds cameras, are fully satisfactory. Furthermore, with the image quality of the OM-1, in addition to the basic sensitivity of ISO200, which is considered to have the highest image quality, you can use without hesitation up to ISO3200 for normal use and up to ISO12800 in situations where high-sensitivity shooting is essential. The resolution of the image itself is already at an impeccable level, so I can confidently say that the OM-1 is a camera that can be fully used even in professional settings.

Occasionally, I hear some people worrying about the Micro Four Thirds format, but the depth of field that is deeper than that of a full-frame camera is, in terms of resolution, an appropriate aperture that does not cause deterioration in image quality due to over-stopping. This is an advantage of being able to choose a value. The 4:3 ratio is rather flexible in shooting that assumes cropping. Above all, the OM-1 has greatly enhanced dust and splash proof capabilities, so it won’t be defeated by rough weather. It’s hard to find a reason why you can’t shoot anymore.

The OM-1 was the first camera to put the term “computational photography” on the front. It’s becoming This is a message that OM Digital Solutions, which inherited camera technology from Olympus, is aiming for. Personally, I feel that this is a camera with a very high degree of perfection, but above all, the name of the former famous machine “OM-1” has been preserved for 50 years. Now that it is a camera that has been inherited with dignity, I am still looking forward to its future evolution with the meaning of support.
