Just a reminder that Panasonic will release a new GH5-GH5s-G9 firmware update in October
New firmware update for Panasonic GH5, GH5S, G9, GX9 coming soon 2018 Oct
With all that L-mount and 10-25mm MFT lens buzz some of our readers might have missed this:
1.Improvement of AF performance
・There were cases where focus point was shifted to the background while tracking the subject in AFC mode. The new firmware minimizes this problem.

・There were cases where focus point was shifted to the background while tracking the subject in video recording. The new firmware minimizes this problem.
The accuracy of detecting the subject has been improved by optimizing the focus area settings and tracking speed.
The point of focus remains on the subject instead of shifting to the background.
2.Improvement of video recording operation
・[One Push AE] failed to operate when [SS/Gain Operation] is set to [ANGLE/ISO] while shooting in Creative Video M mode. This bug has been fixed.

Panasonic says Olympus did not share their same Full Frame vision

Important: Please subscribe and follow our new L-rumors.com to get detailed coverage about the new L-mount alliance!
Lesnumeriques interviewed Panasonic manager Yosuke Yamane and these are some of they info:
- Eight years ago Panasonic had the idea to go Full Frame but at the time there were technical and commercial challenges
- Two years ago they started to look for an alliance around a Full Frame platform. At the beginning of 2018 they approached Leica and Sigma.
- Why is Olympus not on board with this? Yosuke said “we do not really have the same vision. Our directions are different now, on this format“
- The new AI autofocus system works on the question of “where to focus”. For example we use deep learning to track flying birds or human eyes
- Panasonic has abandoned the smart phone project and there will be no follow-up of the CM1 (here on Amazon).
- Panasonic does not think the smart phone market is a threat for MFT
Now I am curious to hear your opinion on the matter in the comment system and in this poll:

Olympus press release about the MFT commitment

Olympus issued that short press release the first day of the Photokina:
“In a press conference at Photokina 2018, Olympus today emphasized their role as innovation leader in the mirrorless camera segment. Olympus confirmed their commitment to support the personal mobility and spontaneity of photographers with a professional camera system boasting great image quality while still being compact and featuring light weight. Olympus management members Shigemi Sugimoto and Stefan Kaufmann explained the Micro Four Thirds sensor standard to deliver the best platform for this value proposition and invited all Photokina visitors to experience the benefits at the Olympus Perspective Playground at Photokina 2018.”
It’s clear they wanted to be clear about their MFT commitment after the Panasonic L-mount alliance announcement. Also Panasonic has clearly stated they will keep developing MFT gear.
