Time to have a quick roundup of the reviewers E-M1X tests conclusions:

Dpreview:

“An inherent benefit of a smaller sensor is that it has less inertia, making it easier to provide stabilization. This is borne-out with a frankly astonishing rating of 7EV, even before you consider the 7.5EV it’ll achieve with the 12-100mm F4. There are footnotes to all these claims, of course, and we tend to find we don’t experience quite the number that CIPA testing promises, but this system is seriously good from what we’ve experienced so far.”

Digitalcameraworld:

“If size isn’t a factor, this is undoubtedly the ultimate Micro Four Thirds camera. And, if you ignore the narrative about sensor size, this is arguably the ultimate mirrorless camera, period.”

Robin Wong:

“To me, I appreciate the significant improvement in AF, both in general S-AF in all situations, as well as vastly more efficient extreme low light AF. This upgrade alone can make or break the deal in some very challenging shooting scenarios. For motorsports shooters, the new subject tracking mode may just make your life so much better with automatic subject detection and tracking, which proved to work very efficiently.”

LCEgroup:

The E-M1X is an extremely well-built device, with some excellent handling and some very strong features, particularly in terms of its image stabilisation, burst shooting and video. For those sports and wildlife shooters with an investment in Micro Four Third glass, it’s going to be a very tempting proposition. That smaller sensor size will likely deter some professionals still, but the ability to utilise a smaller and more lightweight system and still get serious telephoto reach may appeal to others.

New E-M1X studio test from DPreview: “high-res Pixel Shift mode is still impressive”

Share

Dpreview added the Studio test results for the E-M1X including pixel shift test shots:

“Our standard studio tests show that conventional stills performance is little changed from the E-M1 II, but its high-res Pixel Shift mode is still impressive.”

Peter Baumgarten also tested the E-M1X and writes:

In the short time that I have been using the E-M1X I have been quite impressed with its performance and more importantly, the quality of images I was able to get. After a few days of use my muscle memory got used to the increase in size and found the camera to be quite comfortable, especially with the longer lenses. At a price of $2999 USD, this isn’t a camera that most enthusiasts will turn to. However, with the rugged build, great image quality, and increased performance it is definitely one that should attract many professionals who want the advantages of m4/3s system.

Olympus also launched “Olympus Workspace”

Share

I missed this news. But thanks to Robin Wong I can now report it on 43rumors. Robin writes:

On the same day as the launch of the Olympus OM-D E-M1X, Olympus also launched a new post-processing software – Olympus Workspace. The new Olympus Workspace effectively replaces the dated Olympus Viewer 3 as the official native image editing software rolled out by Olympus to fully support the RAW (orf) files and allow full conversion to camera JPEG quality. I have had the opportunity to test the new Olympus Workspace before the release, and I am sharing my experience using it here in this blog article. The official page for Olympus Workspace can be found here (click).

I know it’s not a new MFT camera but you might be interested to see the new Panasonic tech inside this newly announced Panasonic AG-CX350 camcorder (BHphoto and Adorama).

Swiss reviewer completely submerges the E-M1X and camera keeps working as usual :)

Share

At minute 7 you can see the swiss reviewer submerging the new E-M1X. The camera keeps working as nothing had happened. Try to do that with a Sony ;)

The E-M1X has IPX1-rated weather sealing. Don’t know of any other mirrorless camera that has this kind of rating (let me know if I am mistaken).

Additional note: At minute 7.45 he also made a drop test!

Panasonic announcement on January 31: Full S line info and likely no MFT news

Share

As reported today on L-rumors.com Panasonic will have a major press event next week on January 31. I am 100% sure Panasonic will unveil full specs about their new S cameras and lenses. I got no info yet about a possible MFT announcement. I don’t think Panasonic wants to mix in some MFT news with the S launch.

At best we might get some more info about the new 10-25mm f/1.7 MFT zoom lens:
