(FT5) Panasonic is developing a new TOF Micro Four Thirds sensor for a new PERFECT autofocus system!
Panasonic is working to on their ToF sensor from the Vivo Nex Dual phone to implement it on a new AF system in their MFT line!But I am not sure when it will go live (gh6/7/8)
Time of Flight measures accurate distances to subjects, so tap on touchscreen for subject to focus on, get an almost instant ToF reading to distance, quickly move lens focus system to where it needs to be for that distance (no contrast “wobble”, no overshooting, pinpoint accurate video tracking focus, etc). In theory, it beats “hybrid” (ie PDAF + CDAF like in the Sony/Fuji) because it eliminates the need for any back and forward movements that are required by CDAF calculations! It also eliminates PDAF sensor banding that Sony cleverly hides (but Canon and Nikon haven’t mastered the cover up quite as well, it can be seen in shadow recovery). Panasonic will use MFT as testing and maturing grounds for new developments (ToF AF, organic sensors, etc), much like Olympus does for their MFT > medical devices ;)

Unfair comparison: E-M1X High Resolution images versus the $10,000 Fuji GFX images
I was curious to see how well the E-M1X high resolution images perform against the new $10,000 Fuji GFX. And here is the answer given to use by the Dpreview Studio Scene Tool:
Of course there is a big difference…but I would say this isn’t a bad performance from the Olympus if you consider the Olympus costs 66% less :)

Nikkei: Olympus holds 2.8% fo the worldwide camera market share
Nikkei published the 2018 camera market trend results. Sales dropped by 22%. The total units sold were 20.29 million. The single market share changes:
-Canon 40.5% (+ 3.9)
-Nikon 19.1% (-2.7)
-Sony 17.7% (-0.7)
-Fujifilm Holdings 5.1% (+1.3)
-Olympus 2.8% (+0.1)
2019 will be much worse than 2018 as the CIPA data suggests.
