What happens next: 2020 camera and lens release will definitely continue. After that new products will be branded as “OMD” and “ZUIKO”

Share

A couple of additional info on the big news:

  • Outside of the Tokyo headquarters nobody knew about the sale. Olympus Europe and North America only learned this from the press release
  • The 2020 product launch roadmap is still valid and at least one new camera and one new lens will be announced soon
  • Starting from 2021 new products will not have the “Olympus” name in it. Cameras will be branded purely as “OMD” or “PEN” and lenses as “ZUIKO”

What happens to the brand new Vietnam Olympus factory?

Share

image on top shows the old chinese Olympus factory

Back in May Imaging Resource had a chat with Olympus manager Masanori Sako and he once more confirmed Olympus camera division is not for sale. Well this was quite a BS :(

He also said that the “move of production from China to their factory in Vietnam is now complete; we can expect an increased pace of new-product development and announcements as a result

I wonder what will happen to the brand new Vietnam factory from Olympus. What a mess :)
