Olympus Camera shutter sound collection by Robin Wong

Share

Robin Wong writes in his latest blog post:

I set all the cameras to self timer for consistency sake, so you don’t see my hands/fingers in the frame, and the video emphasized the camera as the center of attention. The shutter speed was fixed at 1/80 sec. I tried various shutter speeds and I figured 1/80 was the sweetspot – not too fast that you don’t hear the first and second curtain, and not too slow that you feel there was something wrong with the camera. I have to admit some cameras like the faster newer models E-M1 Mark II and E-M5 Mark III sound much better at 1/60 sec, or a bit slower, because the shutter unit was so much speedier in response. But I want to keep it consistent for all cameras, so at the end I decided to go 1/80.
The whole process was so fun and enjoyable to do, the filming took a little over an hour, time well spent I must say.

CineD Interview With Yosuke Yamane-san About the GH5 II, GH6 & More

Share

CineD published an interview with Yamane-san. A couple of interesting statements:

  • The global shortage of semiconductors and soaring transportation costs are affecting the camera industry, and we are no exception. I myself negotiate directly with suppliers on a daily basis, and at Panasonic as a whole, I try my best to absorb the impact and not cause any inconvenience to customers.
  • We are currently developing the next-generation AF system with the aim of making it even more practical, so please wait until the day we can provide it.
  • I can’t give you more information here than we’ve disclosed, as the GH6 is still in the development announcement stage, but I’m confident that some factors will inspire those people’s imagination. We are also working hard on development, so please look forward to it.
  • When we met last time, I talked about trying (to deliver) 8K at the timing of the Olympics. We have been developing the technology with the aim of achieving this, but looking at the current situation, I think the reality is that the penetration of the 8K culture itself has stagnated. We will consider the timing of commercialization after anticipating the growing needs of our customers for 8K.
