The japanese blog Asobinet saw the new OM-1 camera and described it:

• A macho design similar to the E-M1X, not the shoulder of a conventional model
• Fn button is the same as E-M1 III
• “OM SYSTEM” in the logo part of “E-M1 Mark III”
• “OLYMPUS” in the penta part continues
• The “OM-1” logo is placed in the “OM-D” part of the conventional model.
• Shutter button and command dial are similar to E-M1X

Overall, the design is like adding E-M1X and E-M1 III and dividing by two. If the spec information previously distributed is accurate, it should be a little larger in millimeters than the E-M1 III and E-M1 II. If there is something that E-M1 III users are interested in, is it a command dial design similar to E-M1X? Since the shutter button and front dial are separated, it seems that you need to get used to the operation a little. Also, the design around the Fn lever and AF-ON button has changed a little, so you may need to get used to this as well.

If it was a world line where the E-M1X did not appear, I have the impression that this might have been named the E-M1X. It is a rumored camera that has been called “Wow camera” for a long time, but I wonder if it is an “Aha” camera rather than “Wow”. It seems that there is no mistake in seeing it as a legitimate successor model of the E-M1 lineage, but since it is not definitive information, it is only half the story so far.
After that, I’m worried about the functionality and AF performance that can’t be seen from the spec sheet and appearance.

GH6 specs at BHphoto

The autofocus will be improved by quite a bit, but I can now confirm with 100% certainty that the GH6 will not use a phase detection system. Let’s hope Panasonic engineers found some “trick” that can really fix their flawed af system…

A source told me this about the soon to be announced new GH6:

• rolling shutter is eliminated
• Not sure if they also eliminated mechanical shutter but there is a chance for it.
• And last but not least a massive improvement in AF. It may called DFD AI. They claim that tracking is 5 times better than in GH5.
• no phase detection AF.

A source (Thanks!) sent me this image of the new 12-40mm II lens. What can be clearly seen is that the only exterior difference to it’s predecessor is the replacement of the Olympus logo with the new OM System brand name.
